Maiko Abe

Fair-skinned and shapely with a taste for classic, feminine styles, Maiko wears her black hair to the shoulders, though as Madam A she dons a blonde wig gathered into twin buns, reduced to a single bun during the Auction. Her Gourmet Arc look pairs a snug red dress and black fur collar with elbow-length gloves, a blue fan, and round green-tinted glasses. At the Auction she keeps the glasses but switches to a lavender short-sleeved dress, long dark-purple gloves, and a slim ribbon at her throat.

Though widely thought to be sadistic, Maiko showed a flicker of feeling over the loss of her Scrapper, Taro. She is defined most of all by an intuition that has never once failed her, letting her escape narrowly when Ken Kaneki, aided by Shuu Tsukiyama, stormed the Ghoul Restaurant, and again at the Auction, where she slipped out only moments before the CCG poured in.

Before she became Madam A, Maiko scraped by in a poor and joyless life. Starving one day, she happened upon Dr. Akihiro Kanou and tried to devour him, only to be knocked back by a bodyguard and then offered a job that would give her the lavish existence she now enjoys.

During the Gourmet Arc she owned the Scrapper Taro, who appeared in Kaneki's dismantling act inside the Ghoul Restaurant. After Shuu Tsukiyama badly wounded Taro, she accepted his deal to make the injured Scrapper the guests' meal in Kaneki's place in exchange for a replacement. When Kaneki's group later tore through the Restaurant hunting for her to reach Kanou, Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa helped her flee, but she was eventually cornered near a dock by Tsukiyama and captured after Kurona abandoned her. At the Auction, unnerved by the reveal of the one-eyed Tooru Mutsuki, she fled and escaped through the air ducts as the CCG closed in. In the end she takes up farming, coming to treasure how precious food and life truly are, and keeps a cow named Saburou.
