Extrasensory Perception is a heightened sixth sense that lets both demons and Demon Slayers detect things beyond ordinary senses. It powers long-range awareness of nearby presences and sharp combat reading of an opponent's intent to strike.
Appearing in Chapter 63 and the thirty-second anime episode, Extrasensory Perception, often shortened to ESP, is the power to sense the paranormal beyond normal sight, sound, and touch. It comes in two forms: a general version that demons and Demon Slayers alike possess, and a specialized version that arises from supernatural sources such as Blood Demon Arts. As a rule, a more refined ESP marks a more skilled and dangerous fighter.
Closely tied to ESP is the concept of aura, a kind of signal that both sides read through their sixth sense. The aura of an extremely strong demon, such as an Upper Rank of the Twelve Kizuki, can trigger fear, trembling, shortness of breath, paralysis, faint pain, and weakness in those nearby. Muzan Kibutsuji's aura was strong enough to fracture surrounding glass when his temper flared.
One use of ESP is constant spatial awareness. Practitioners feel the presence and aura of beings around them and can locate them without looking. Most slayers, and Hashira especially, can detect demons from great distances. Muichiro Tokito calls a demon's aura strange, which may be why it stands apart so easily from a human's, and Kyojuro Rengoku describes the aura of an Upper Rank as heavy and crushing. Demons seem to have even keener senses; Kokushibo and Doma both knew Akaza had perished simply because his presence vanished from their awareness despite the great distance. Muzan could pinpoint every slayer scattered across an entire mountain and later felt them returning to life and rejoining the fight, and he claimed demons can even tell humans apart by blood type, disease, and genetics.
The other use is reading combat, chiefly by sensing an opponent's bloodlust and killing intent. Feeling that intent tells a fighter when and where an attack is coming, buying time to counter. Kyojuro's perception was so acute he reacted in his sleep to a girl trying to harm his spiritual core. Inosuke Hashibira refined this further using his unnaturally sensitive touch, feeling an incoming strike as pricks and stings on the targeted area. Akaza developed a technique called Compass Needle to read what he calls Fighting Spirit, an opponent's drive to fight, letting him parry blind attacks and gauge an enemy's strength at a glance. Marked slayers gain a special form through the Transparent World. The one known counter is the Selfless State, which erases a fighter's presence entirely.
ESP is shared broadly across both demons and Demon Slayers. On the slayer side, Hashira such as Kyojuro Rengoku and Muichiro Tokito show strong presence detection, while Inosuke Hashibira built a touch-based variant of bloodlust sensing. Among demons, Akaza employs his Compass Needle to read Fighting Spirit, and Upper Ranks including Kokushibo and Doma demonstrate especially sharp sensing. Muzan Kibutsuji exhibits the most far-reaching awareness of all, tracking enemies across vast areas.

Extrasensory Perception, often shortened to ESP, is a heightened sixth sense in Demon Slayer that lets both demons and Demon Slayers detect things beyond ordinary sight, sound, and touch. It powers long-range awareness of nearby presences and sharp combat reading of an opponent's intent to strike.
One example of Extrasensory Perception in Demon Slayer is Kyojuro Rengoku reacting in his sleep to a girl trying to harm his spiritual core. Another is Muzan Kibutsuji pinpointing every slayer scattered across an entire mountain and feeling them returning to life and rejoining the fight.
Extrasensory Perception comes in two forms: a general version that demons and Demon Slayers alike possess, and a specialized version that arises from supernatural sources such as Blood Demon Arts. A more refined ESP marks a more skilled and dangerous fighter.
In combat, Extrasensory Perception works mainly by sensing an opponent's bloodlust and killing intent, telling a fighter when and where an attack is coming and buying time to counter. Inosuke Hashibira refined this with his sensitive touch, feeling incoming strikes as pricks and stings, while Akaza developed a technique called Compass Needle to read an opponent's Fighting Spirit.
The one known counter to Extrasensory Perception is the Selfless State, which erases a fighter's presence entirely. Marked slayers also gain a special form of ESP through the Transparent World.
