Personality

Kyogo is cruel, aggressive, and quick to violence. He beats his wife and children without cause, using his far greater strength to abuse a family that cannot fight back. Genya recalls him as pathetic, a man forever searching for a reason to hurt those around him, and his hostility eventually turned others against him as well.

Even his spirit, encountered by Sanemi in the afterlife, shows little change. He coldly refuses to let Shizu reunite with their son and forces Sanemi back toward life, hinting at how possessive he was of his wife. Yet he takes a strange pride in the physical toughness he passed down, telling Sanemi to be grateful for the strength that lets him survive his wounds.

History

Kyogo married Shizu, and together they had seven children, including Sanemi and Genya. He proved a relentlessly abusive father and husband, and Shizu often threw herself between him and the children to absorb the blows meant for them. His vile conduct earned the resentment not only of his sons but of many others.

His violence ultimately caught up with him, and he was stabbed to death because of the grudges he had created. His death freed the family from his abuse, though the loss of their breadwinner left them struggling. Sanemi and Genya, the two eldest, vowed to protect the rest, but they would end up the only survivors after their mother, turned into a demon, killed the younger siblings.
