Sumi Nakahara

A little girl of fair complexion, Sumi has dark, round button eyes and wears her hair low in two tails clasped with light-blue butterfly pins. Her outfit is a white long-sleeved caretaker's dress bound at the waist by a vivid blue ribbon, completed with white socks and sandals strapped in matching blue.

Bright, upbeat, and helpful like the other girls of her trio, she carries herself with more politeness and maturity than is usual for a child her age, even though demons killed her family before she came to the mansion.

After her family was attacked, Sumi was taken in by Kanae and Shinobu Kocho together with Kiyo, Naho, and Aoi, and she mourned alongside the household when Kanae was later slain. She played a key part in restoring Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu after their ordeal at Mount Natagumo, guiding their rehabilitation training.

She continues to assist the recovering slayers after the clash with Enmu, half-heartedly tries to stop Tengen Uzui from taking the girls on his Yoshiwara mission, and is relieved to tears when a comatose Tanjiro finally wakes following the Entertainment District battle. Later she helps care for Nezuko in the sunlight around the mansion.

Sumi never displays any combat ability of her own, but she, Kiyo, and Naho are the ones who teach Tanjiro the demanding Total Concentration: Constant method, showing that the girls hold genuine knowledge of Breathing Styles and the training behind them.

The characters chosen for her name mean middle and meadow. Although the spelling differs, she shares her given name with Sumi Shinazugawa, the younger sister of Genya and Sanemi, and hearing the name spoken stirs brief memories of his lost sister in Genya.
