Appearance

Yushiro looks like a short young man of ordinary build, his complexion pale and his keen lavender eyes marked by black slit pupils. His tidy short hair is shaded vertically from mint green down into black. He typically wears a pale blue-grey collared shirt beneath a plain white haori, dark blue hakama, white tabi, and zori with dark straps.

When he goes undercover among the Demon Slayers, he switches to their standard black uniform, rendered with a green tint in the anime, and hides his slit pupils much as Tamayo does, carrying a white pack of medical supplies on his back. As a human he appeared nearly the same, though gaunt from illness and without the slit pupils or green tint in his hair.

Personality

Yushiro is blunt, quick-tempered, and combative, often wearing a scowl. His first meeting with Tanjiro opens with him belittling Nezuko, and he is rarely seen smiling except when admiring Tamayo, whom he loves and addresses with affectionate respect. He resents anyone keeping him from her side or showing her even slight interest, and he cares little for outsiders, once half-seriously proposing the pair flee while leaving Tanjiro and Nezuko as bait.

Beneath the hostility he carries a sense of justice and flashes of compassion. He takes back his insult of Nezuko, shields Tanjiro from inhaling Tamayo's harmful art, and rescues Zenitsu from falling within the Infinity Castle. After Tamayo's death he is left grieving and despairing, and when Tanjiro urges him not to die, he honors those words by devoting his life to painting portraits of her memory.

Abilities

Yushiro's full combat strength is largely unknown, but as a long-time companion of the powerful Tamayo he is a capable fighter who relies chiefly on support rather than direct attack. Like all demons he regenerates from grave wounds, once regrowing his entire head, and he possesses enhanced strength along with skilled hand-to-hand technique resembling judo and open-palm striking. Tamayo's surgery left him needing little human blood, and because she severed her tie to Muzan, Yushiro is immune to the Demon King's remote control.

His Blood Demon Art, Blindfold, lets him produce paper talismans that hide or expose the presence of objects and people, render himself invisible, and grant others heightened sight. In the Infinity Castle the technique grows far stronger, masking whole groups, linking the Ubuyashiki children to the battlefield through the crows, and even letting him hypnotize and seize control of a target. He uses this to wrest the newly named Upper Rank Four, Nakime, from Muzan and turn her power to the Corps' advantage. He is also an expert medic, stabilizing Zenitsu and reviving a near-dead Tanjiro, and in the modern era he becomes a celebrated painter.
