Key Events

Tanjiro lands a rib-cracking punch on the masked swordsman, scolding him for beating Zenitsu when slayers are forbidden to harm one another. A trade of blows ends with Tanjiro headbutting the stranger, dislodging the boar mask to reveal a surprisingly delicate face. The man names himself Inosuke Hashibira but cannot spell it, then drops unconscious from the impact. After helping the children bury the manor's dead, the slayers receive a bag of wisteria to ward off demons, given Kiyoshi's rare blood, and descend the mountain with Inosuke in tow. A crow guides them to a house bearing a wisteria crest, where an elderly woman, Hisa, welcomes them, feeds them, and arranges a doctor who confirms all three have broken ribs. Tanjiro learns Inosuke grew up alone in the mountains, testing his strength. When Nezuko's box stirs and she climbs out, Zenitsu is stunned to find Tanjiro has been traveling with a girl, and he angrily draws his blade in jealous outrage.

Adaptation details

The episode adapts the latter pages of chapter twenty-six and chapter twenty-seven. Inosuke's habit of mangling Tanjiro's name into nonsense begins here.

Differences from the manga

The roadside argument between Tanjiro and Inosuke over his aggression and name-butchering is original to the anime; in the manga the conversation about Inosuke's reasons for joining occurs later. The order of the meal and the doctor's examination at Hisa's house is also swapped between the two versions.
