Becoming a Student

Katasuke inspects the stump where Kawaki lost his arm and readies a prosthetic to take its place. Asked by Naruto whether the limb could simply be restored, the scientist explains that his gear trails far behind what Kara can build, so a proper replacement will need time. Naruto offers up one of the prototypes made for himself, then learns the devices feed off the wearer's chakra, and decides to keep his own flowing around the clock to power it. To him the whole arrangement shows how chakra binds people to one another. Boruto jokes about wanting a mechanical hand too, and Kawaki deadpans that he would happily blow it off.

Far away, Amado finishes patching up Boro while Delta's drone docks and pours her mind into a spare replacement body. The revived Delta bursts free cursing, then recounts the recent clash for Boro and Code, both stunned that Kawaki shielded Naruto's daughter. Jigen cuts the squabbling short and asks after Koji, learning the spy stays hidden in the village, content to let the shinobi keep Kawaki while he studies Boruto, who bears a mark of his own. Naruto meanwhile weighs the boy's future with Sasuke, Sai, and Shikamaru, who insists on assigning Konohamaru as a watchful guard.

Kawaki asks why the Hokage invests so much in a stranger, and Naruto answers that shielding Himawari more than earned it, admitting the boy reminds him of his own younger self. A request to be taught ninjutsu follows, which Naruto accepts, though he, Boruto, and Mitsuki must keep stopping the newcomer from reaching for his scientific tools or his Kama during practice. Sasuke separately begins drilling Sarada toward the Chidori and performs it for her as a model. Boro, lurking within earshot, catches word that a traitor hides inside Kara and coldly volunteers to slaughter everyone and rebuild the inner ranks from scratch.

A lighter beat sends the young trio to buy Extreme: Shinobi Picture Scrolls cards, where Boruto sulks over pulling yet another of his father while Kawaki lands a prized Fourth Hokage and offers it in trade. Late that night, as Naruto sleeps, Kawaki finishes regluing Himawari's broken vase, only to find it leaking and slip outside to hunt the missing shard. Kurama surfaces to warn him against straying from Naruto's side. The installment adapts chapter 34, opens with the theme BAKU and closes with Sign That You Were There, and first aired in Japan on 23 May 2021.
