The Ghost Incident: The Investigation Begins!

Boruto scans crowds hoping to trigger his eye, joined by Shikadai and Mitsuki, and the three note that the strange incidents have spread past the Academy. Learning that their fathers have opened investigations, Boruto grows more set on cracking the case before Naruto. The day passes without a lead, but the boys stay confident, and Mitsuki has already filed their leave of absence from the Academy. At home, Hinata confronts Boruto about skipping class after the school called.

Boruto insists to Hinata and Shino that he has a vital duty, and Hinata suspects he is really chasing his father's attention. Shino's next lesson is a workplace experience assignment, which places Boruto, Shikadai, and Mitsuki with the postal service under Tayori, who runs them all over the village making deliveries. Boruto spots Naruto at an opening ceremony, and the two share a brief exchange before Boruto splits the group up to finish faster.

Regrouping, the boys hear from Mitsuki about an incident at Senju Park, but by the time they arrive Sai has already worked the scene and gathered witness accounts. Sai reports to Naruto and Shikamaru that traces of Wood Release point to someone experimenting with Hashirama's cells, likely former Root members harvesting chakra for military use, and he and Shikamaru resolve to comb Root's records for suspects.

Naruto stops home to change and admits to Hinata that, having grown up fatherless, he is unsure how to connect with Boruto. At the post office, complaints about botched deliveries land the trio on inventory duty while Tayori corrects their earlier mistakes. A television report of a fresh incident at the water purification plant, where their classmates are stationed, sends them rushing to the scene.
