The Mizukage's Successor

Kagura leads the visiting students on a tour, cautioning that some locals resent outsiders while Boruto warns Iwabee against picking fights. Along the way they are introduced to Mei, the former Mizukage credited with wartime service and the village's early expansion, before meeting the current leader Chojuro. Boruto grows restless during a long speech on cooperation, and Sarada quietly calls him on it. As the group departs, Chojuro urges Kagura to reconsider taking on something, hoping to prepare him for a future role, but Kagura politely refuses and rejoins the others. Mitsuki fills the group in on Kagura, and Shikadai explains the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist when Boruto proves ignorant of them.

At the Academy, where students train with blades atop the water, Chojuro pairs Boruto against Kagura for a spar. Boruto hesitates to commit, and even a watery feint fails to save him from being disarmed. The fight visibly rattles Kagura, and he deflects when students bring up his chances of one day becoming Mizukage. A trip to the beaches follows, with Kagura crediting Chojuro for improving daily life in Kirigakure. The day ends at a memorial for those lost during the Bloody Mist era, where Iwabee reveals his grandfather was slain by the Fourth Mizukage, a man who shared Kagura's surname. Iwabee bristles at Kagura apologizing for something predating him.

A hostile group led by Tsurushi Hachiya then confronts them, sneering at the outsiders and mocking Boruto for being an Uzumaki. When Hachiya lunges with a blade, Kagura stops him and Iwabee drives them off with an earth spear, leaving Kagura wounded until Sumire tends the injury. Hachiya reports back to Shizuma, who orders another confrontation, intrigued by how Kagura will react. That night Denki slips away to buy vintage electronics and is abducted; a message soon tells Boruto where to go, and Denki realizes he is bait meant to lure Boruto into a fight.

Chojuro signals his intent to groom Kagura for a future position. Kagura defeats Boruto in the Academy spar yet is clearly disturbed by the fight. Iwabee's family history ties the Fourth Mizukage to Kagura's clan. Hachiya's ambush escalates tensions, and Denki's kidnapping sets up a trap targeting Boruto.

Adult Swim's English dub run shifted timeslots starting with this episode, moving from 11:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. Eastern on its Toonami block, which effectively pushed the airing into early Sunday rather than late Saturday.
