Chapter 109: Zart the Remnant

The chapter resumes in the thick of the earlier clash, as Frieren drops from the sky and deliberately refuses flight magic, knowing any open display would leak knowledge of things to come to the Demon King's forces. Below her, the demon Zart treats her falling body as leverage rather than a kill, warning Himmel that under a minute remains before she hits the ground. He offers to spare her if the warriors set down their arms.

The group seems to give in, yet the bluff collapses the moment Frieren scorches Zart with fire from overhead. Her strike becomes the party's real answer, and the companions snatch their weapons back up. She cannot lean on Zoltraak here, since magic from this era hits hard but moves slowly against so nimble a target, so she eases her own plunge with delicate mana work and lands to support the others on foot.

Himmel and Eisen press the attack despite knowing a single touch from Zart triggers his teleportation, and Frieren's uncanny anticipation lets Himmel fight as though she reads his mind. The two warriors cut the demon across his chest in the same instant and drive him to a cliff. Cornered, Zart tears a vast slab of mountain loose and flings it skyward above the group.

Rather than panic, the companions stay strangely composed, and Himmel tells Frieren to drop the act, certain she is sitting on a spell that can save them. He reminds her the whole party trusts her and asks her to trust them in return. She tells them to carry the secret to their graves, then unleashes her mana and pulverizes the falling rock. Before Zart can flee to warn Grausam, she rises behind him and ends him with Zoltraak, confirming to the dying demon that she came from a later age. From a distance, her friends marvel that she truly flies, and Himmel notes that things are finally getting interesting.
