Hello Again

Season two begins with Yuki assuming the student council presidency and encountering the two colleagues who will define his year. Around him the Prince Yuki Fan Club frets over losing its grip on him, while summer break sharpens the ordinary rhythms of home. The episode arranges its pieces for the arc to come more than it resolves anything.

Motoko Minagawa, who leads the fan club, worries over which girls might join the council alongside Yuki and gain an unfair path to his affection, and she and the others plot ways to find out. At home Shigure needles Kyo and Tohru, envying the summer holidays they still get to enjoy, and a scuffle breaks out when Yuki catches Kyo off guard. Tohru pleads with them to stop fighting. At school Yuki takes up his new role and meets the vice president Kakeru Manabe, whom he reads as lazy, and the treasurer Machi Kuragi, who strikes him as timid and hard to read. He leaves the first meeting uneasy about working with either of them.

The title comes from a line of Tohru's. The episode combines the forty-second and forty-ninth chapters, which originally sat at different points in time, so scenes were shuffled and their timeframes adjusted to fit one narrative. Many small manga details were reworked, among them Motoko's admiration rendered as narration rather than spoken thought and various wardrobe changes, while montage shots of Sohma members and added narration from Tohru were created for the anime.
