A Perfect Day for a Jungle Cruise

Marco Amereti, once a Petty Officer in the American Imperial Navy and now a serial murderer, has spent two months in Japan carving the skin from women's torsos into the outline of a shirt. A group of CIA officers turns up claiming they want to help Section 9 run him down, but their utter lack of surprise at each development pushes Ishikawa to break into the agency's files. There he discovers that Marco once served on an American Empire commando squad sent into the South American jungle, a covert operation designed to crush an enemy's will through terror, flaying civilians among its methods.

Batou, a former JGSDF Ranger who witnessed that atrocity firsthand, resolves to stop Marco by whatever means necessary, and his behavior stirs fear that he intends to kill the man rather than detain him. That very outcome is what the CIA is counting on, since Marco is the single loose thread that could tie them back to the jungle mission.

Marco's den in the sewers comes to light, and Batou chases him through a running gun battle, his mind flooded with visions that blur the dripping tunnels into the steaming jungle where the two first clashed years before. When he finally traps his quarry, Marco begs to be shot. Batou instead reminds himself that he is first of all an officer of the law and puts the killer under arrest. Robbed of the ending they wanted, the CIA agents are left to return home with Marco in their custody.

Its graphic content led Canada's YTV to skip the episode during the first broadcast; it later ran uncut on December 30, 2005, at 1:30 AM before moving back to the usual midnight slot in the show's second run. In the United States, the Adult Swim airing opened with a warning to viewers about the material.
