Buntan Kurosuki

Slender and pale, Buntan stands at an average height and looks a handful of years older than Sarada Uchiha. Her blonde hair is short and combed straight back, a beauty mark sits just above one corner of her mouth, and her teeth come to sharp points. The rippled ring around the pupils of her blue eyes is a trait handed down from her father, Raiga. She favors a sleeveless red dress patterned with pinstripes, worn over matching short leggings, and carries a sword at the hip along with long wraps on her wrists. Once Shizuma declares war, she throws a black jinbaori coat with tan lining over her shoulders like a cape.

Buntan despises the tranquil Kirigakure shaped by its Sixth Mizukage, reading its welcome of tourists as a betrayal of the village's brutal past. That resentment draws her to Shizuma Hoshigaki and his dream of reviving the Bloody Mist and toppling Chojuro. She idolizes the father she never met and blames Naruto for his death, and her early devotion to Shizuma runs deep enough to look like love. In a fight she carries herself with arrogance, dismissing academy students as beneath her, yet the swagger masks a raw insecurity born of a cold mother and an absent father, a need to prove she matters that leaves her scorning inherited kekkei genkai as cheating.

She works missions with detached efficiency, takes pride in prying answers from anyone, and her love of Kiri's old traditions has even taught her healing. Prison and Shizuma's treachery reshape her. She sheds her feelings for him, turns her fury toward killing him, and grows fiercely loyal to comrades like Kagura, whose protection earns her enough gratitude to reject any plot against him. In time she releases her hunger for revenge altogether, wears her headband with pride, and resolves to simply arrest Shizuma rather than kill him, honoring the faith Kagura placed in her.

Buntan grows up under a mother who dismisses her as worthless, just as that mother scorns Raiga, the father who never learns his daughter exists. In time she falls in with Shizuma Hoshigaki. Recruited as the wielder of Kiba among his New Seven Ninja Swordsmen, she draws on Lightning Release to charge her strikes, favoring lightning orbs, armor, and self-attacking creatures much as her father did, and she handles the twin blades with ambidextrous skill, even steering them from a distance.

When Shizuma approaches Kagura Karatachi, Buntan shields him from Boruto's shuriken and later claims Kiba from the swordsmen's vault, cutting down the puppets guarding it. The group gathers at Memorial Park to destroy the village's Memorial Stone but is met by Boruto, Sarada, and Chojuro, and Shizuma seals the area in mist. A collapse drops Buntan and Sarada into a chasm, where Buntan presses her advantage until Sarada copies her techniques and ignites the cavern's built-up gas with an explosive tag, knocking her out. Chojuro takes her into custody, and she is sent to prison. Shizuma later stages a breakout, poisoning Buntan and leaving her behind as a decoy, so her sentence stands.

The Funato Clan's uprising gives her a second chance. Kagura enlists her, Hebiichigo, and Kyoho, returning their blades under cursed seals. During the campaign she helps expose that Tenma Funato commands an enormous fortress ship armed with a Chakra Cannon, which Boruto turns against the vessel itself before they escape. Amid a shipboard murder investigation and word that her sentence has been cut by a mere three years, Buntan refuses Hebiichigo's scheme to murder Kagura, unwilling to betray the man who protects her. When Funamushi fatally stabs Kagura, she is shattered, and she later runs Funamushi through with Kiba in vengeance, though Hebiichigo dies as well. After Boruto's willing sacrifice moves Ikada to end the war, Buntan lays down her swords and returns to Kirigakure, intent now on arresting Shizuma rather than taking his life.
