Sōta Hori

As a boy, Sōta has a pale complexion, a mop of unruly gray hair, and olive eyes, and observers note how much he resembles his older sister, Kyōko. In his early appearances he is shown in an assortment of casual outfits.

Following the time skip he has shot up into a tall, lean teenager who now takes after his father, Kyōsuke, instead. His first grown-up appearance matches dark trousers and a blazer over a white shirt, finished with a necktie handed to him by Miyamura, whom he affectionately calls his big brother; he is later seen in a school uniform layered with a sweater.

Sōta is a well-behaved child who is tightly bonded with Kyōko and looks up to Miyamura as though he were an older sibling. On their first meeting Miyamura calls him level-headed for being able to recite his own address, and the boy proves refreshingly blunt, raising subjects his sister would rather avoid. When he spots Hori and Miyamura wearing rings, he lights up assuming a wedding is on the way. He is sharp enough to sense the pair's mutual feelings before either admits them, so he lingers outside after school to grant them time alone, a gesture the couple misreads as an early rebellious streak.

Yuna Okuyama dubs him a crybaby, since small things set off his tears easily. He is devoted to shows like Hurricane Star, forever watching cartoons or belting out their songs whenever Miyamura comes by, with the side effect that Hori accidentally learns the lyrics herself and is mortified by it.

The series opens with Sōta tripping after a dog startles him and Miyamura escorting the boy home, an errand that leads to Miyamura formally meeting his classmate Kyōko. Sōta has a noted distaste for carrots and gripes whenever they turn up in curry, and his sister has been known to use him as a pretext for inviting Miyamura over a second time.
