Sutton

Standing at roughly typical height with a slender frame, Sutton keeps most of his long brown hair tucked beneath a purple bandana. His usual clothing pairs blue jeans with white boots, while a yellow shirt sits above a brown belt fastened at the waist.

Devotion to those he sails with sits at the core of who Sutton is, a trait shared across the entire Phoenix crew. He holds firm that the captain, Puzzle, is destined for the Pirate King's crown, and Vigaro's death left him reeling. Because he battled so hard to recover the crew's flag from the Accino Family's grip, a strong sense of pride runs through him.

In a fight he turns to a blade. He is presumably a capable combatant, since his crew pushed as far as the New World, yet once they entered the Grand Line's second half they ran into rivals well beyond their level. He cannot match the Accino Family on his own; even so, by pooling his strength with his companions he helped drive back a pack of Domo penguins and kept the same creatures from dragging the ship away.

Long before, the crew sailed into the New World, where a hostile pirate vessel overwhelmed them, killing Vigaro and gravely wounding Puzzle, which sent them retreating to the calmer Paradise half of that ocean. On reaching Hyokaido their Jolly Roger was seized by the Accino Family, and to keep the bounty hunters from calling in the Marines, the crew put out word that Puzzle had perished. The family then coerced them into steering other crews into their trap.

Later, when the Straw Hats came across them, the Phoenix Pirates claimed to be fishermen plundered by pirates. Chopper saw to their wounds, and Luffy brought them aboard the Thousand Sunny to share food, at which point they presented a wine barrel laced with a sleeping drug. As night arrived and the crew moved to commandeer the vessel for a strike on Lovely Land, three of the Straw Hats had merely feigned sleep and rose to face them, with Stansen calling for the crew to yield and be taken. Luffy decided to tow them onward to Hyokaido all the same.

The Phoenix Pirates eventually shared their genuine story and their longing to return north, though Puzzle refused, unwilling to risk his comrades' lives. When Brindo and Campacino arrived to provoke them, Puzzle forced himself from his sickbed to lead a charge that rallied the others. Sutton helped haul Luffy from the water, cut through swarms of Domo penguins, and joined the crew in gripping a rope to keep their ship from being stolen. After the Accino Family fell and the flags were reclaimed, the crew set off once more toward the New World with the Straw Hats, only for Campacino to intercept them again, and they threw themselves into that clash with delight.
