Appearance

Dwarfing any ordinary person, Stansen carries a stout figure paired with thick, muscular arms. A crescent scar marks the skin below his right eye, set off by a slim mustache and a dark beard. His attire runs to a flapped hat, a leather band around each arm, and jeans. A later encounter with Imu would strip him of his right leg.

Two years past his freedom, his beard and mustache had grown fuller, and his clothing changed to an open blue fur vest paired with a brown cape of fur that carries skulls upon each shoulder, a sizable spotted belt closed by a skull-shaped buckle, and loose yellow trousers beneath a viking helm. As a child back on Elbaph he wore a comparable outfit scaled down to his size, adding a light fur vest and a sword fastened across his back.

Personality

As an Elbaph warrior should be, Stansen is a man of honor, thanking Rayleigh for the rescue and volunteering to help the liberated slaves get off the island once their collars had come off. Even held captive, he kept his composure and remained easy company. Cooler-headed than his captain, he recognizes the menace of foes such as Imu while Hajrudin barrels in without thinking, even though the two of them just as often stumble into farcical mishaps side by side. However much a decision of Hajrudin's may baffle him, he never pushes back and will trail his captain anywhere. In his youth he seemed a cheerful sort, snacking happily as he watched Hajrudin drill.

History

Sixty-three years ago, a young Stansen watched Hajrudin train toward becoming a warrior on Elbaph, and in time he left the island to take up the pirate's life. Fifteen years ago he traveled with his crew in search of a physician for Ida, Hajrudin's failing mother. At some point the Coffee Monkeys seized him while he dozed with his guard lowered, the only way capture was thought possible, and he was carried off to the Human Auction House at Sabaody Archipelago. There a bomb collar was clamped on him as he waited near Rayleigh for the coming auction, and he later slipped away with the rest of the slaves once Rayleigh helped strip the collar off, thankful to him and the Straw Hats.

His freedom regained, Stansen and a trio of fellow giants threw in with Hajrudin's bid to bring back the Giant Warrior Pirates, taking work as mercenaries under Buggy's Delivery, where they climbed to S-Class rank and ranked among the outfit's biggest earners. After Hajrudin swore the crew to the Straw Hat Pirates, they walked away from the dispatch organization and put to sea aboard the Naglfar within the Straw Hat Grand Fleet.

Across the Elbaph Arc, Stansen and Hajrudin tracked down a giant moose to feed the incoming Straw Hats, then reunited with Luffy, who recalled the giant he had liberated at Sabaody. Stansen vowed lifelong thanks and pitched in on the feast. He was later swept into the Loki crisis, the demonification of the original Giant Warrior Pirates, and the fighting that followed, at one stage employing his hammer move Gigantromma to split a demon down the middle. When Imu descended on Elbaph and swung at Hajrudin, Stansen sprang forward and shoved his captain to safety, surrendering his right leg to the blade in doing so. Chopper had the injured carried indoors, and whether his leg was ever restored is unknown.
