Summary

The episode opens by recapping Franky's entry into the crew, Usopp's tearful return, and the Coup de Burst escape from Garp, capped by a toast to the new faces and the new ship. Attention shifts to a cabin where an injured man named Puzzle drifts through memories of someone called Vigaro, watched over by an anxious boy, Jiro. Elsewhere a hulking figure hailed as Papa sprawls among a hoard of pirate flags while his followers ready a birthday bash for him. On the Thousand Sunny, the crew revels in their new home, Nami soaking in a bath, Chopper testing his doctor's chair, and Luffy reeling in a shark that promptly eats every other fish in the tank.

Key Events

As snow starts to fall, the crew spots a derelict stripped of its masts with men fishing aboard. Sanji steers the Sunny over, and the fishermen panic, pleading for their lives before claiming pirates raided them three days back. Luffy welcomes them aboard for a meal, and Chopper tends their wounds while one man recoils that the reindeer can speak. Meanwhile a different stranger steps out to find the Straw Hat flag, then takes a Den Den Mushi call. The voice on the line, a figure dressed in frills, names the rookie crew as the Straw Hats and warns that they must not be allowed to slip away.

Notes

During the feast a man calling himself Stansen hands the crew a barrel of liquor, and one seated guest quietly slips out a vial of poison. Chopper goes with Jiro to their vessel to operate on the gravely hurt Puzzle. As the drugged Straw Hats seem to nod off, the imposters argue over the scheme, several wracked with guilt at the crew's kindness, until Franky, Sanji, and Robin reveal they spotted the poison and demand the truth, while Zoro shrugs that three of them is plenty. This entry begins the Ice Hunter Arc and brings in Jungle P as the new opening, alongside many debut characters and the location Lovely Land. The relaxed shark gag is adapted from manga chapter 442.
