April Howsam

April is a middle-aged woman whose straight blonde hair falls to her chin in a center-parted bob. She has light brown eyes set beneath notably fair, prominent brows. Her usual outfit is a soft red long-sleeved cardigan layered over a plain white top, worn with beige capri trousers, brown loafers, and rounded brown eyeglasses.

Loyal, forthright, and honest, April strikes people as trustworthy and faintly suspect at once. She dotes on Oliver and answered Debbie plainly about her ties to the agency, yet that very willingness to name herself a possible informant, alongside her claim to serve Debbie rather than Cecil, leaves her true allegiance an open question.

Little is documented about April's earlier life beyond her enlistment with the Global Defense Agency to tutor children, gifted or otherwise, with or without powers. When Invincible returned from Thraxa with news that Omni-Man had fathered a rapidly aging Thraxan child, Cecil urged the family to take on a specialist minder. Mark refused the first candidate, an elderly woman named Helga whom Debbie suspected of spying, and April arrived moments later, freely confessing her agency membership while pledging to answer to Debbie alone.

She proved a gifted teacher, marveling that Oliver advanced faster than any child she had worked with, drilling his memory and rewarding him with time to play. She sheltered in a Global Defense Agency bunker during the Invincible War, watching the chaos unfold on a monitor, and kept tutoring Oliver as he grew into a teenager in the years that followed. Beyond teaching, she counts the ukulele among her talents.
