Overview

Spearlike Bones, written in Japanese as Sōkotsu, is a Transformation Quirk operating from close to mid range. It debuted in Chapter 93 and reached animation in Episode 49.

Its origin traces to the mother of All For One and Yoichi Shigaraki, from whom All For One took it. The power later spent time with at least one further holder before circling back to him, and it eventually came into Tomura Shigaraki's possession.

Historically it stands apart from every other entry in the catalogue. This is the earliest Quirk on record anywhere in the story, sitting unnoticed in All For One's mother more than two years before the Luminescent Baby was born and Meta Abilities were acknowledged at all. It was the first thing All For One ever stole, the last thing he used before dying in both his own body and Tomura's, and the first Quirk with a name that viewers actually watched change hands between holders of All For One.

Mechanics

The Quirk grows tapered bone spears out of the user's body, and no particular spot is off limits. They can erupt from a limb or torso as readily as from inside the mouth.

Output scales on demand. How long the spears run, how thick they are and how many appear at once can all be pushed upward, and the points slide through human flesh with very little resistance.

Notable Users

In its first host the power went unrecognized. All For One's mother carried it as nothing more than hardened growths along her arm, never realizing she had an ability at all. Only once the newborn All For One took it from her did anyone learn what it could really do, and he put it to immediate use, driving bone out across his whole body to slaughter an Anti-Meta Task Force along with civilians nearby.

Somewhere in the years that followed he handed it off to an ordinary man who had come looking for something to protect himself with, then reclaimed it later.

Against All Might it appeared twice. The Quirk figured into the Ultimate Quirk Combination he unleashed during their earlier clash, and in their final confrontation he used it to wreck the Dynamight explosive device before All Might could detonate it and take them both out.

Beaten by Dynamight and reduced to infancy, he made one last attempt on his opponent's life by spitting a spear from his mouth, only for Katsuki Bakugo to bite down on the projectile and detonate it.

Its final appearance came through Tomura. With All For One's vestige occupying that body and the body itself falling apart from critical damage, he called on Spearlike Bones and several other Quirks in a doomed effort to hold himself together long enough to jump to a new host.
