Toshitsugu Kudo

The resemblance to Katsuki Bakugo registers first: the same short spiky hair, here a ginger salmon, above thin eyes that slant slightly downward, red in the anime and brown in the manga.

A large scar forks out from the left of his forehead and finishes beneath both eyes, earned in the last fight of his life. His jacket was green and built for combat, its collar broad and black, and the heavy gauntlets he wore doubled as weapons once his Gearshift Meta Ability drove them.

Kudo lived through the harshest stretch of the Meta Ability era and came out of it a soldier before anything else, serious and apathetic in equal measure. The chaos left him with a world painted in black and white, and he said plainly that every fight he entered offered life for victory and death for defeat. One purpose organized the rest: bringing down All For One, and he extended no mercy to anyone who interfered.

That sternness carried into his afterlife, where he would not put his power behind Izuku Midoriya at all, the boy's ambition to save Tomura Shigaraki struck him as an insult to everything the war had cost. He was not his enemy's equal in cruelty, though. Setting out to kill Yoichi, the brother of the man he hated, he offered his hand instead. After watching Izuku's memories he understood that the boy is driven by a conviction that goodness sits inside anyone at all, and admitted he wanted to share it.

His final battle showed the rest of him. Half-dead and being strangled, he was still trying to fire on All For One from behind, and the villain remembered him as a pompous brat who would not so much as squirm at the end. That defiance, together with the rescue of Yoichi, earned him a place no other enemy held: the one man his rival truly hated. Later, watching Izuku fight Tomura, he noticed what was left of Star and Stripe indicating a warped core inside the villain, and built a plan around it, volunteering to go first because Gearshift's recoil would buy time, and telling Izuku not to mourn a phantom.

Gearshift: Kudo's Meta Ability let him govern how fast things accelerate, and in what direction, as they move. Early on it reached only small objects, and All For One dismissed it as a peashooter. A century of One For All stockpiling behind it turned Gearshift into something else entirely, a unique power that could no longer be used in the ordinary way.

The evolved version worked on people and objects at a cellular level, on the user himself, and even on intangible things such as smoke, granting a burst of speed enough for sonic booms and for shrugging off inertia. The cost is severe: prolonged use starves the user of oxygen and inflicts intense pain, and a second application recoils harder still, which is why it is treated strictly as a last resort.

One For All: Yoichi Shigaraki transferred it to him, making him the first inheritor, and being first he gained no noticeable increase in strength from it. For weapons he carried large gauntlets slit at the ends, which fired pointed blades, and a rifle that shot similar projectiles, both steered by Gearshift once launched.
