Campbelldon Tennis Arc

The Campbelldon Tennis Arc is the eighth story arc of SPY x FAMILY, spanning chapters 29 through 35 (volumes 5 and 6) and episodes 20 through the A part of episode 24 in the anime's first season. The name is conjectural, coined by fans. It follows the Midterm Exams Arc and precedes the Imperial Scholars Mixer Arc.

The arc introduces WISE agent Fiona Frost, codename Nightfall, who joins Twilight on a mission to recover the so-called Zacharis Dossier while privately scheming to replace Yor in Operation Strix. Yor, meanwhile, wrestles with insecurity over her place in the family.

The arc opens with a school assignment: Anya must report on a parent's job, and after Yor imagines dragging her along on an assassination, everyone agrees the psychiatrist is the safer subject. Loid tours her through Berlint General Hospital, where she quietly transcribes what his mind reveals of his espionage work, then delivers a presentation so unflattering that Loid gets summoned to explain himself to Henderson.

Sylvia briefs Fiona on a joint operation with Loid, warning her not to interfere with Operation Strix. Fiona ignores this, visiting the Forger home to plant doubts in Yor, but Anya reads her mind, uncovers both Fiona's feelings for Loid and her designs on the wife role, and pointedly clings to Yor. Watching Loid smile naturally among the Forgers rattles Fiona, though she leaves determined to prove herself the better spouse.

The mission itself targets art collector Cavi Campbell, whose holdings include Lady in the Sun, a painting once owned by Colonel Erik Zacharis and believed to point to a dossier of documents that could reignite the East-West conflict. Entry requires winning the Campbelldon, Campbell's underground tennis tournament, where champions may claim a piece from his collection. Entering as "Twain and Nafalia Foney," a supposed husband and wife, the agents demolish a pair of former professionals, then crush the drug-enhanced Bolic Brothers. Before the final, they are locked in a room flooding with debilitating gas and coordinate through Morse code to limit their exposure. The championship match against Campbell's children features doctored rackets, a sabotaged court, and a sniper, whose bullet Loid absorbs with a concealed vest, yet the pair adapt and win. When the SSS pressure prevents Campbell from handing over the prize, the agents swap the canvas for a forgery and ship the original to headquarters.

Analysis reveals an anticlimax: the fabled dossier is a stash of pin-up photographs the colonel hid from his wife. Fiona, still fixated, challenges Yor to a friendly tennis match and is obliterated by serves that break the sound barrier; she leaves in tears vowing revenge. The arc closes with the neighbors gossiping that Loid is cheating, prompting a night out where a drunken Yor demands to know if he loves Fiona, kicks him across the bar when he clumsily attempts a honey trap, and then cradles his head as he dreams of his mother's lullaby. The two reconcile, Loid assures her the family needs her, and by morning Yor has forgotten the entire conversation, forcing them to have it all over again.

Fiona Frost is established as a recurring presence, a top-class agent whose unrequited devotion to Twilight makes her both an asset and a complication for Operation Strix. The Zacharis scare dissolves harmlessly, leaving Loid to reflect on how lies, his own included, can serve the cause of peace.

The arc also cracks open Loid's past for the first time, offering a fragment of memory about his mother, and it leaves Yor more secure in her position: whatever her shortcomings in cooking or acting, she has found a home she refuses to surrender.
