Overview
Turning its owner into a Soap Human, this Paramecia fruit lets her release and guide lather and suds straight from her skin. Kalifa, an assassin serving CP9, was handed the fruit by Spandam amid the Enies Lobby conflict, cut it apart with a fork and knife, and swallowed it at Rob Lucci's urging over Jabra's objections. The label comes from the Japanese word meaning bubble, and English editions title it the Bubble-Bubble Fruit. It is no Logia, because the eater cannot become soap herself. Before eating, the fruit looks like a violet melon dotted with swirls, its inner flesh a vivid green.
Mechanics
Forming right off the wielder's body, the suds surface even through gloves and accomplish much more than washing away dirt. When they cover a target, they sap that person's physical might and leave the flesh slippery and shining, bleeding off their vigor and clogging their movement. Kalifa can also compress the foam tightly around herself, sealing her body inside an enormous cake of soap for cover, which on one occasion warded off an electric attack. Its limits are exact: ordinary water washes the bubbles off and reverts a smoothed victim to normal, and a stiff breeze can blow the foam apart before it drains anyone. Her named moves take in Golden Hour, a manual smear that saps and greases a foe, along with the Bubble Master: Soap Sheep pose that heaps loose foam around her, feeding into firing variants like Hitsuji Gumo Relax Hour and the surge-shaped Hitsuji Gumo Tidal Wave. On top of that, the standard Devil Fruit vulnerabilities remain.
Notable Users
Kalifa is the fruit's only user. During combat, the vigor-draining foam allows a capable but physically weaker assassin to grind down mightier foes, though the fresh arrogance the power bred played a part in her downfall. Away from fighting she puts it toward cleaning, most notably scouring the streets of St. Poplar during CP9's Independent Report to gather money for Lucci's care. The ability overlaps with the cleaning-focused Woshu Woshu no Mi, the smoothing Sube Sube no Mi, and the Ato Ato no Mi, with the distinction that a target drained by the Awa fruit will in time regain their powers.
