Overview

The seventh storyline drops the surviving sorcerers into the Culling Game, a deadly contest Kenjaku launches to gather the cursed energy needed for his merger with Master Tengen. Spread across ten barrier-sealed colonies, the game forces players old and new to fight or lose their techniques. The heroes enter with three goals: pull Tsumiki Fushiguro out, locate a way to unseal Gojo, and protect Tengen. The opening sees Yuji's execution reinstated and Gojo sealed, leaving him hunted by Yuta Okkotsu, who fakes Yuji's death by stabbing him and secretly healing the wound to satisfy a binding vow planned with Gojo months earlier. Reunited, Megumi recruits Yuji to save his sister, and the group contacts Tengen, who reveals a back gate to the Prison Realm that only the Angel, Hana Kurusu, can open.

Summary

The sorcerers split into roles. Maki heads back to her family estate, where her father slaughters her twin Mai, whose dying sacrifice strips Maki of cursed energy and grants her a heavenly restricted body. Maki then annihilates the entire clan, finally surpassing Toji. Yuji and Megumi recruit the suspended Kinji Hakari through his underground fight club, and they begin manipulating the game's rules through the messenger Kogane, adding a rule that lets players transfer points to one another.

Across the colonies, the battles rage in parallel. Within Tokyo's first colony, Yuji wins over the lawyer Hiromi Higuruma after surviving his courtroom domain, securing the point-transfer rule, while Megumi defeats the receipt-summoning Reggie Star and is found by Hana Kurusu. In Sendai, Yuta overcomes the elite players Dhruv, Ryu Ishigori, Takako Uro, and the cockroach curse Kurourushi, calling Rika fully to his side to claim victory. In the Tokyo No. 2 Colony, Hakari beats the despairing manga artist Charles before saving Panda, whose sibling cores are destroyed, then survives a brutal duel with the lightning sorcerer Hajime Kashimo by sacrificing an arm through a binding vow. In Sakurajima, Naoya comes back reincarnated as a vengeful spirit, and Maki, with help from Noritoshi Kamo and the newcomers Hagane Daido and Rokujushi Miyo, kills him for good.

Kenjaku, meanwhile, manipulates a foreign military into invading the colonies, secretly feeding them to cursed spirits to fill the colonies with energy. He then assaults the Tombs of the Star, where Choso and Yuki Tsukumo defend Tengen. Despite a well-planned ambush and Yuki's transformation into a black hole, Kenjaku survives and seizes Tengen, completing his merger preparations.

Aftermath

The rescue plan unravels catastrophically. The Tsumiki escorted into the colony turns out to be the ancient sorcerer Yorozu wearing her body, and Sukuna exploits a binding vow to tear off a finger and force it into Megumi, incarnating into his body. After a desperate fight, Sukuna escapes with Uraume, submerges Megumi's soul in the Bath, and kills Yorozu and by extension Tsumiki, drowning Megumi's will entirely. Kenjaku then forces final rules onto the game to drive it toward its conclusion. The sorcerers regroup and unseal the Prison Realm, and Gojo returns at last, confronting Kenjaku and Sukuna. The three agree to delay their decisive showdown until December 24, 2018, with Gojo confident he can defeat them both, leading directly into the Shinjuku Showdown.
