Appearance

Sotomura is a portly grown man whose hair falls to a medium length while staying clipped tight at the sides. His brow is squared off, and stubble shadows the skin above his lip. His usual outfit is unremarkable: black trousers tucked under a white dress shirt, cinched by a pale belt, finished off with a pair of black shoes.

Personality

By nature Sotomura shies away from any clash. When Shota Ito tormented Junpei, he turned a blind eye instead of stepping in to help. That timidity, though, sits over a real warmth toward the kids he teaches, and the way he handled Junpei becomes something he comes to regret, prompting him to watch the responsible bully closely from then on.

History

His first scene has him lying in wait for Junpei, pressing the boy on whether word of his dead so-called friends had reached him and why he never showed at the funeral. That exchange falls apart once Yuji Itadori arrives and strikes up a conversation. Annoyed at being cut off, Sotomura demands to know the newcomer's name, whereupon Yuji grabs the man's trousers and sprints away, with Sotomura giving chase to get them back. A day later, attending an award ceremony for his pupils, he watches in confusion as everyone present suddenly collapses. Junpei then appears and instructs him to keep his eyes on what is coming, leaving the instructor to look on while Junpei faces down Shota Ito. With the crisis over, Sotomura confronts Shota about the bullying, warning that they both now have to shoulder the guilt of breaking Junpei's spirit, and promising that he will be keeping watch on him.
