Average in height with a slim but unmistakably muscled build, Tsurugi has spiky brown hair that juts sharply forward over keen, dark brown eyes. The resemblance to the Zenin bloodline is striking, especially to his grandmother Maki and his cousin Megumi. His brown Jujutsu High jacket combines a high collar, a full zip, and three-quarter sleeves with matching trousers, and heavy training bandages wrap his torso and arms beneath it. Sandals finish the look. Beyond his cursed tool, the accessory that stands out most hangs from a cord at his neck rather than sitting on his hand: a ring once belonging to his grandfather.

Quiet, diligent, and generally composed, Tsurugi is propelled by a need to disprove his clan's low expectations. Much like Maki, he is fiercely independent and maintains he requires no shielding from Yuta's ring, planning to hand it back to his sister Yuka only once the Gojo Clan has seen for itself that he can do without it. He clashes endlessly with Yuka and tends to dismiss other people, favoring solo action, though a mutual understanding still ties the siblings together. For all his attempts at calm, he runs more reckless and immature than he admits, the kind who craves looking cool, as when he heedlessly drew his fire-based Honoyagi inside a forest. He keeps firm moral boundaries, resolving that a villager-hunting tiger had to be killed despite pleas to spare it, yet proves anything but cold-hearted by letting the beast's cub live and coming to truly value the Simurian Maru as a friend.

A talented young sorcerer, Tsurugi carries a heavenly restriction that trades nearly all cursed energy, less than an average non-sorcerer holds, for superhuman physical performance. His Physically Gifted condition mirrors the one Maki was born with, so that tracking cursed-energy currents cannot reveal his movements and his strikes stay hard to anticipate, and he layers tireless training atop that natural edge. Lacking enough energy to cast techniques on his own, he instead manipulates the cursed energy held inside his cursed tool to make up the gap. As a New Shadow Style swordsman he deploys Simple Domain to cancel a domain's sure-hit effect, the blistering Batto draw, and Maculation, a grid-patterned Simple Domain with an automatic interception function. His gear includes the flame-wreathing Honoyagi katana and the soul-severing Split Soul Katana. Driven to the edge of death against Maru, he accepts help from Rika, the spirit lingering in Yuta's ring, and merges with her to draw on decades of stored cursed energy that boost his blows and force through enemy techniques; he later swore a binding vow releasing that fusion for a steep gain in speed.
