Summary

Shibuya is in motion. Several curtains have been thrown up over the area, and Team Mei Mei catches the job of bringing down the one at Meiji-Jingumae Station. The instant Yuji realizes Mahito has a hand in this, he plunges into the station, where a curse that thinks itself clever is posted over the curtain.

Key Events

On the basement third level of the Hikarie complex, with civilians by the hundreds penned inside, Gojo treads the air over the crowd before dropping to the Fukutoshin Line Platform to meet Hanami, Jogo, and Choso. He needles Jogo, unbothered by the numbers. Yuji, meanwhile, lands on Team Mei Mei beside her brother Ui Ui and bristles at being kept in reserve. Tasked with disabling the Meiji-Jingumae curtain, Mei Mei scouts through her crows and points Yuji at the target on the upper floors while she mops up the transfigured humans, whose presence tips Yuji off that Mahito is involved.

Yuji runs into a grasshopper spirit, Ko-Guy, that will not stop trumpeting its smarts. Spotting a talisman-bound nail as the curtain's anchor, he buries the four-armed curse under sheer speed and power, swats away its surprise abdomen strike, exorcises it, and snaps the talisman to drop the barrier. Down below, Mahito feels Ko-Guy die and itches to fight whoever did it, but sticks to his orders. At the Fukutoshin line, Geto's plan to bog Gojo down with defenseless civilians unfolds as Jogo and Hanami trigger Domain Amplification to cancel out the Limitless. Gojo backs up the platform, then makes clear he is only taken aback that the curses figured such a feeble plan could beat him.

Notes

This eighth second-season episode adapts portions of chapters eighty-three through eighty-eight and reached Japan on September 14, 2023, debuting Ui Ui and Ko-Guy. Geto told Mahito's crew to keep Gojo busy for twenty minutes, leaning on the trapped non-sorcerers to choke his power. The anime tones down several killings, letting Choso's Slicing Exorcism reach Gojo alone and having Jogo torch just one man instead of a crowd. Compared with the manga's quicker exchange, the Yuji-versus-Ko-Guy duel is drawn out.
