Chapter 118

Sukuna confronts the uncontrolled Mahoraga to keep Megumi breathing. The early exchanges go his way, until he realizes the shikigami can adjust to anything thrown at it. Summoned during their first meeting, the beast might have bested him, but ten fingers stronger now, Sukuna finally cuts loose with his full strength.

Mahoraga brings down the blade mounted on its fist, and Sukuna meets it with his forearm, the resulting shockwave knocking Shigemo off balance. Feeling an odd energy in the weapon, Sukuna twists clear before it can split his guard, rains down left-handed strikes, then shreds the shikigami all over using Dismantle. He recognizes the weapon as the Sword of Extermination, a cursed tool forged against cursed spirits and loaded with positive energy akin to a reverse cursed technique; a common curse would have been cut straight through. The eight-handled wheel atop Mahoraga's head rotates and heals its every wound in an instant. Sukuna's next slash is turned aside, surprising him, and the following blade swing shatters his block, flinging him through several buildings until he crashes into an office, where he concedes his foe is no pushover.

Mahoraga closes instantly and thrusts at his face, but Sukuna vaults over the blade, kicks the creature, climbs onto its arm, and halves the whole office building with his technique before driving it into the ground with a kick. The wheel spins once more and restores it, exactly as he predicted. Likening the trait to Yamata-no-Orochi, Sukuna reconstructs the pattern: the first attack carried reinforced positive energy, and once that failed, the shikigami switched to cursed energy and learned to deflect his slashing technique, both shifts following the wheel's initial turn. Binding the eight-handled wheel and Furu's incantation, the rite of Ten Sacred Treasures, to a full cycle of harmony, he concludes Mahoraga adapts to any and all phenomena. Admitting the creature could have beaten him in their earlier fight, Sukuna offers Megumi his gratitude for pointing the way. With that, Malevolent Shrine erupts as he triggers his Domain Expansion.

This Shibuya Incident arc chapter launches the battle between Sukuna and Mahoraga, set just outside Shibuya Station. It features the Sword of Extermination, Megumi's Mahoraga summon, and Sukuna's Shrine with its Dismantle slash, climaxing in Malevolent Shrine. The events were adapted in Episode 41 of the anime.
