Sukuna is fascinated by Maki's rejection of jujutsu and declares their duel a test of sorcery against raw physicality. After a Black Flash drops Maki, only the supposedly strongest grade 1 sorcerer, Kusakabe, is left standing.
Maki battles Sukuna, who is captivated by her heavenly restriction, yet even that may not be enough to bring him down. With every other option exhausted, one unexpected grade 1 sorcerer remains to keep the fight alive.
A flashback recalls Mei Mei, Nanami, Gojo, and Kusakabe each being asked who they considered the strongest grade 1 sorcerer. Mei Mei, Nanami, and Gojo all answered Kusakabe, though Kusakabe himself disagreed, naming someone other than himself or Usami. In the present, Maki's duel with Sukuna keeps tearing apart Shinjuku. A stray Dismantle drops debris and cars between the two, and Sukuna exploits it by detonating a vehicle with a slash, hurling Maki into a building. He pursues with Cleave, but Ino cuts in with Kaichi, only to be battered by a flurry of slashes and kicked out of the building.
Sukuna wonders why Ino was not carrying the blunt sword cursed tool, just as Kusakabe drops through the ceiling to ambush him with that very weapon. Sukuna predicts the move, blocks, and pins Kusakabe to the wall before Maki tackles him away. The two resume inside, Maki pressing for a quick finish, and Sukuna admits she excites him more than any prior opponent because her heavenly restriction abandons jujutsu entirely. He frames sorcery as skin and flesh against Maki's bone and marrow, declaring their clash will decide whether jujutsu or pure physical power is worth cultivating. He catches the Split Soul Katana, then, having stopped healing himself, draws back and lands a devastating Black Flash on Maki.
The blow sends Maki flying. Scanning for the missing sorcerers and finding none, Kusakabe scraps his plan to retreat. Meeting Sukuna's gaze, he accepts that he alone must now face the King of Curses.
The chapter appears in Volume 28 and ran in issue 15 of 2024, spanning 22 pages. It sets up Kusakabe's solo stand and reinforces Sukuna's interest in heavenly restriction. Featured cursed tools include the Split Soul Katana and Nanami's blunt sword, while Ino's Auspicious Beasts Summon and Kaichi also appear.
