Kento Nanami

Tall and solidly built, Nanami keeps his blonde hair in a tidy part and is recognizable for the armless sunglasses he almost always wears over his small hazel eyes, beneath very thin brows. True to his salaryman past, he dresses in a formal business suit, typically a blue dress shirt under a tan blazer with matching slacks, his necktie carrying the same dotted pattern as the bandages on his blunt sword, which rides in a holster hidden under the blazer.

During his corporate years he wore a vertically striped jacket over a white shirt and dotted tie, and as a student he simply wore the standard Jujutsu High uniform with his hair styled a little differently. The Shibuya Incident left lasting scars: he lost an eye against Dagon and was later horribly burned by Jogo, with half his face and all the hair on his left side scorched away.

Wise and reserved, Nanami often reads as stoic and aloof, the kind of man who seems too serious about his job. In truth he simply keeps sentiment separate from duty. Blunt and direct, he has no patience for naive optimism or vague, open-ended questions, and he is quick to show his irritation in word or expression. He despises overtime and refuses to work a single minute past what is asked of him. Beneath the gruff surface, though, he is surprisingly sociable and welcomes intelligent conversation, claiming with dry seriousness that he only became a sorcerer because it is marginally less foolish than being a salaryman.

He sees adulthood not as a product of age or near-death experience but as the slow accumulation of life's small frustrations. He initially treated Yuji as a child, unwilling to watch the boy trade his youth for the sorcerer's life, until Yuji forced him to acknowledge his worth. Having returned to the work because corporate life left him feeling unappreciated and impactful on no one, he values the small gratitude he earns from ordinary people he protects. His student years were shaped by his optimistic classmate Yu Haibara, whose death struck him deeply and likely drove his first departure from the profession. He believes sorcerers are trash in part because they must ask comrades to accept self-sacrifice, and he admits he ran away from the job rather than quitting it.

Nanami stands as the textbook example of what a Grade 1 sorcerer should be, so respected that Gojo entrusted Yuji's mentorship to him and Takuma Ino measures his every hard decision against what Nanami would do. In combat he can stand toe to toe with special grade cursed spirits like Mahito, surviving a direct strike to his soul during their early clashes, a feat no previous opponent of Mahito's had managed. He fought Dagon alongside Naobito and Maki Zenin, endured an unrelenting swarm of Death Swarm shikigami inside Dagon's domain for over a minute, and even while gravely burned by Jogo still cut down an entire horde of transfigured humans.

His innate ability, the Ratio Technique, divides a target with ten lines and forcibly creates a weak point at the seven-to-three ratio, applicable to any chosen body part and even to inanimate objects. The extension Collapse generates a weak point in the surrounding environment so he can shatter it in a single blow, which he used to bury Mahito underground. He governs his power through binding vows, chiefly Overtime, which suppresses his cursed energy to eighty or ninety percent during his official work hours and then swells it to one hundred ten or one hundred twenty percent once overtime begins, plus Revealing One's Hand, which strengthens his technique in exchange for disclosing how it works.

A master swordsman with a blunt cleaver and an equally capable unarmed fighter, Nanami strikes with grace, speed, and pinpoint precision, his technique letting him cut through even cursed-energy defenses. He is extraordinarily durable, surviving Mahito's Idle Transfiguration and feeling, in Shigemo's words, like a stone wall rather than a person. Above all he is a tactical thinker who reads opponents, exploits openings, and breaks stronger foes down by creating constant weak points. He also held the record for consecutive Black Flashes at four in a row before Yuji surpassed him, a feat he modestly chalked up to luck.
