Chapter 31

Once the clash with Mahito ends, the wounded curse gets away while Yuji's injuries are treated. Shaken by what he had to do, Yuji talks with Nanami about the meaning of dying a natural death. Elsewhere, the aftermath of Junpei's ruin reaches back to his school.

Kneeling and bleeding out, Mahito faces a Yuji who senses his prime chance to end the curse and charges in to kill. Aware that his Domain Expansion had been a final gambit Sukuna still turned back, Mahito morphs into a tall, bloated shape to stay alive. Mistaking it for a fat target, Yuji rams a Divergent Fist loaded with killing intent into the form, only for it to burst like a balloon of air. Spotting the escape, Nanami chases Mahito to the sewers, rings Ino to head him off, and means to follow, but Yuji crumples unconscious, seething at himself. Below ground, Mahito is awed by the sheer force of Sukuna's soul, certain the King's return will herald an advent for every cursed spirit, and tables his revenge against Yuji for another day.

Afterward, Yuji recuperates in a secluded house with Nanami, who opts to thank the boy instead of scolding him. Yuji shrugs off the credit, claiming the rescue was accidental and owed to Sukuna, and stays troubled over killing the transfigured humans, unsure how to help anyone pass on naturally. Nanami counters that good and evil rarely define most people, that death arrives differently for each of them, and that battling wicked deaths is wearying work he would not advise. Even so, he expects Yuji to keep at it and asks only that he not die in the process, for others will need to lean on him as Nanami did that day.

When Nanami calls him a full jujutsu sorcerer at last, Yuji understands he has been accepted. Over at Junpei's school, Sotomura confronts Shota Ito and works out that Ito left Junpei his scar; when Ito tries to brush it aside and accuses the teacher of looking away, Sotomura concedes that both of them earned punishment for breaking Junpei's heart. Yuji later rejoins Gojo and Nanami, still unsure about natural death yet resolved not to lose again until Mahito is dead. Set at Satozakura High School in Kawasaki City, the chapter features Yuji's Divergent Fist and Mahito's Idle Transfiguration, and ran in 2018 within the Vs. Mahito Arc.
