Footwear armor Mei Hatsume built into Izuku Midoriya's hero costume, designed to make up for what his legs could not deliver on their own. The toes snap forward on impact, doubling the force behind every kick, and the gear became the foundation his Shoot Style stands on.
Mei Hatsume designed the Iron Soles to work as both plating and cleats, and they arrived as part of the wider costume revision Izuku Midoriya asked her for. Their purpose was straightforward. His legs held strength he was not yet using, and the soles let him reach it.
Because they close that gap, they are inseparable from Full Cowl - Shoot Style, the kick-forward technique Izuku developed to spare his ruined arms. The gear and the fighting style depend on each other.
Impact drives the mechanism. When a kick lands hard enough, the toe section snaps outward in a blowback motion, stacking a second strike on top of the first.
What comes out of that carries far past an ordinary blow. Kicks thrown with the soles throw off shock waves and split solid rock. They also blunt the rebound that would otherwise travel back up Izuku's leg, so he absorbs less of what he delivers.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

There are no women on Namek. That isn't an oversight, it's the biology. Why we handed Piccolo the one thing his own species rules out, and why it had to be trap soul....

Mei Hatsume built the Iron Soles as part of a wider costume revision Izuku Midoriya requested, designed to let him use leg strength he was not yet tapping into.
The Iron Soles are inseparable from Full Cowl - Shoot Style, the kick focused technique Izuku Midoriya developed to spare his arms from the strain of One For All.
The Iron Soles pair with the Air Force Gloves, another piece of Mei Hatsume support equipment that handles for Izuku Midoriya's hands what the soles do for his feet.
Kicks thrown with the Iron Soles carry enough force to throw off shock waves and split solid rock, far beyond what an ordinary kick could do.
