Summary
July. Nana Shimura shoves her student clear and entrusts him to Gran Torino as All For One bears down on her, intending to end her final stand with everything he has. Gran Torino flies off carrying Toshinori Yagi, who cries out for his master as she points toward him and leaves him a last word of encouragement. All For One offers his thanks for the entertainment and erases her in a burst of light that levels the entire island.
Toshinori is eighteen when he loses her. Rain hammers the building where Gran Torino batters him through indoor training, hammering home that his feelings do not qualify him to face All For One. The boy weeps for the woman who had been a mother to him, tormented by his own helplessness. Gran Torino's instruction is simple: graduate from U.A., then leave for America, somewhere All For One cannot reach, and remember that Nana gave her life because she believed in what he would become.
Spring brings graduation and the trip across the Pacific. He spikes his hair upward and adopts the grin his master wore, promising himself he will not come home until he has gathered all his might. Only then will he have earned the right to say "I Am Here!"
