Sorahiko Torino

Character

Gran Torino is the retired Pro Hero who drilled All Might into a fighter and later did the same for Izuku Midoriya, a former U.A. homeroom teacher who plays the doddering old man right up until he moves. His Quirk fires air from the soles of his feet and makes him one of the fastest people alive. Tomura Shigaraki put him in a hospital bed.

Appearance

Age has left him tiny, barely reaching 120cm, with deep wrinkles cut across a light complexion and a build stripped down to almost nothing. His eyes are brown, his beard is trimmed short, and his grey hair stands up in spikes with a few strands falling forward.

The costume is a monochrome bodysuit finished with a belt marked by the letter G, a yellow cape, gloves and boots in yellow thick enough to look padded, and a dark domino mask shaped like a pair of diamonds.

None of this matches the man he used to be. In his prime he cleared two meters, matching All Might's hero form for height, and carried a handsome, powerfully built frame. The look otherwise held steady across his life, short grey hair included, and what he wears today is a scaled-down copy of the outfit from those years.

Personality

The first impression is a fraud. He greeted Izuku as a forgetful old man who could not hold onto his name for a full minute and kept calling him Toshinori, despite having personally issued the internship invitation. The whole routine exists to needle his new student.

Underneath it sits a mind of unusual reach. Watching the U.A. Sports Festival alone was enough for him to map Izuku's progress and read his character, and he delivered the opening lesson on controlling One For All through a comparison with taiyaki, his favorite dessert. He also worked out All For One's strategy purely from press coverage following the Hero Killer's rampage. Whatever All Might spent nearly a year failing to convey, Gran Torino got across in a week.

Teaching, for him, is brutal. All Might still shakes and comes apart at any mention of the man, courtesy of the training he survived, and Gran Torino has never seen a reason not to shout at Izuku, tear into him, or hit him over a mistake. Toshinori gets the same treatment, whether it is a scolding for never visiting or an order to keep his head straight going into his final confrontation with All For One. He is not stingy with praise when it is earned, though, and he said as much about Izuku's steady progress and about All Might's win.

Abilities

Overall Abilities: Old age has not blunted him. The world's number one hero learned combat and Quirk usage from this man, and Izuku's grasp of One For All came from the same source. In Hosu he brought down a low-tier Nomu with only marginal help from Endeavor, a feat several professionals had failed at outright, and he dropped Dabi, Spinner, Magne, and Twice with one attack apiece. He stood in on no fewer than two clashes with All For One, proving decisive in the rematch, and he beat and arrested Kurogiri while holding off Gigantomachia at the same time. During the Paranormal Liberation War he fought Tomura Shigaraki shoulder to shoulder with the reigning number one hero.

Enhanced Strength: The quick blows that knock out capable Villains carry real weight behind them. In his prime he hit All Might hard enough to make the future Symbol of Peace vomit, a memory the man never once shook off. Even elderly he could lift All Might's muscle form, physically outclass Izuku, and crack pavement swinging at a Nomu.

Enhanced Durability: All Might once punched him square on and he stayed conscious through it, he stood at the center of the All Might versus All For One fight and came away with minor injuries, and lived through Tomura driving a fist clean through his chest, though it took him out of the rest of that battle.

Keen Intellect: He never held One For All, and he still taught it to two people. Izuku picked up more from him inside two days than a year with All Might had produced, and All Might's plan for beating All For One rested on his advice.

Jet: Air blasts out of holes in the soles of his feet, delivering extreme speed and devastating kicks along with short bursts of flight. The air itself comes from his breathing. There is a ceiling on it, since he cannot drive himself far upward, so the ability is not the blank check it looks like. All Might claims his movement outruns the eye, something Izuku confirmed the hard way, and he can leave a person unconscious before they ever locate him. Attacks from creatures as enhanced as the Nomu he simply slips. His named Ultimate Move is Jet V8 Wild Speed.

His boots are drilled through at the soles so his Quirk fires without any footwear in the way.
