Chapter 12: Yeah, Just Do Your Best, Ida!

All Might's move into teaching has made U.A. High School a magnet for journalists. Reporters camp outside hoping for a quote from anyone willing to talk, and one of them tries walking straight through the gate, only to be stopped cold by the school's automated security barrier.

Inside, Shota Aizawa puts the question of a class representative to Class 1-A. The ballot hands the post to Izuku Midoriya, with Momo Yaoyorozu taking the deputy role. Over lunch, Izuku admits to Ochaco Uraraka and Tenya Ida that the job feels beyond him. Tenya insists he will manage. When Ochaco teases Tenya about his stiff manners, he opens up about where they come from: generations of his relatives have worked in the hero profession, and his older brother, known professionally as the Turbo Hero Ingenium, is the standard he measures himself against.

The campus alarm then cuts in, and the cafeteria empties in a crush of panicked students. Tenya spots the press swarming beyond the fence and works out that no villain has broken in at all. He asks Ochaco to lift his weight away, fires his engines mid-jump, and plants himself against the emergency signage high above the crowd. From there he shouts the truth down at everyone, and the stampede dissolves into order.

Once class resumes, Izuku steps down and names Tenya in his place, pointing to what he had just watched in the hall as proof of the better choice. Tenya takes over as representative of 1-A. Elsewhere, the staff study the barrier and find most of it reduced to nothing, which no ordinary journalist could manage. Principal Nezu rules out that explanation entirely and suspects the breach was staged by someone malicious, possibly as an opening statement of hostility.

Class 1-A elects Izuku Midoriya as representative and Momo Yaoyorozu as his deputy, but Izuku surrenders the position after the cafeteria incident and installs Tenya Ida instead.

Tenya explains his family background and names his brother Tensei as the hero he wants to match.

Someone destroys a section of the U.A. barrier, and Nezu reads the intrusion as a deliberate declaration of hostility toward the school.

The chapter belongs to the U.S.J. arc and was collected in the second volume, running nineteen pages after its release in Weekly Shonen Jump on September 29, 2014. Tenya Ida appears on the cover.
