Summary

Shoto Todoroki is stunned by the sheer level Mirio Togata is operating at. Shota asks whether he intends to join in, and Shoto declines, saying that without a provisional license he has no standing to face him. Having cleared the long-range fighters, Mirio turns toward the close-quarters half of the class. Eijiro thinks the Quirk simply makes him invincible, but Izuku suspects a mechanism underneath and tells everyone that whatever else he does, Mirio must attack directly at some point, and that instant is their opening. Eijiro thanks him for the read.

Mirio charges and sinks into the ground, then surfaces behind Izuku, who stops his advance with a Full Cowl kick that passes right through. Mirio is impressed at being anticipated. He keeps phasing and jabs toward Izuku's eye, and Izuku shuts them, only for the finger to be a phased feint while the real hit lands in his stomach. Everyone counters him the same way, Mirio remarks, so he trained the counter to the counter. Tenya calls out, but Mirio is behind him and into his gut before he can move, and within moments the rest of the class has taken the same blow.

Recovering, the class agrees when Mirio asks whether the Quirk was too much, frustrated at having accomplished nothing. He explains that he has exactly one Quirk, Permeation, and that the teleportation is simply an application of it. It lets him pass through anything, ground included. When he falls into the earth and switches the Quirk off, an odd phenomenon fires him out instantly, and by shaping his posture and orientation he can aim where he emerges. Mina summarizes it as a video game glitch.

Tsuyu calls the Quirk very strong, and Mirio answers that he made it strong. The drawbacks are severe: while it is active no oxygen enters his lungs since air passes through him even when he inhales, his eardrums do not vibrate, his retinas catch no light. Everything passing through him leaves him unable to feel anything at all, and because he still has mass, the one sensation left is falling. Even basic use demands a whole sequence of operations. What makes it manageable is prediction, which cheats time and puts him ahead of his surroundings, and prediction comes from experience.

That experience, he says, is exactly why he wanted this fight: it is what the internships gave him, the thing that let him transform his Quirk and reach the top. The class begins to see how far work studies sit beyond field training. Izuku is struck that a Quirk with drawbacks this heavy was overcome by sheer persistence. The class thanks him, and the Big Three head back. On the way, Hado is impressed he managed not to hurt anyone and asks whether anyone stood out. Mirio names Izuku, for reading and predicting his opening move and answering it.

At the Heights Alliance dorm, the girls discuss the internships, and Momo notes Shota has cleared them to proceed. Izuku phones Gran Torino to ask about taking him on and is turned down for lack of time. Gran Torino points him at All Might instead. When Izuku says he needs to use his Sports Festival connections, Gran Torino replies that those only serve people who actually made any, while All Might has plenty of names he could put the boy in front of, his old sidekick among them.

Somewhere else, a man at a computer is approached with a report on a suspect's movements. He asks for it, and the news is that Overhaul, head of the villain outfit they have been investigating, has reached out to the League of Villains. Overhaul and Tomura Shigaraki come face to face, brought together by Twice, and Tomura is pleased with the delivery.
