Chapter 356

With the mask already fractured, Earphone Jack drops off Tsukuyomi and Dark Shadow and tells them to swing now and catch her afterward. Tsukuyomi, understanding that Hawks lacks the raw force to finish it, wraps himself in Black Abyss and throws a Ragnarök: Fleeting Blow, a colossal fist that smashes the mask apart.

Tsukuyomi collects Earphone Jack while Hawks mocks the assumption that stalling was ever the whole plan. All For One, meanwhile, finds his own senses running behind. Blind and deaf for years, he has compensated with a stack of sensory Quirks, vibration detection and Infrared among them, which put him far past any ordinary person. Earphone Jack's Quirk alone could never dull that, which leaves only one explanation: his Quirks are in revolt. He works out that holding a duplicate where the original once sat has cost him authority over everything he carries.

Hawks moves in to end it with his katana. All For One responds on two fronts, swallowing several vestiges to reassert control inside, and outside erupting into a storm of Rivet Stabs with himself at the center. Hawks shields Tsukuyomi and Earphone Jack from the worst of it, while the rivets gather up the shards of the mask for repair. Then Endeavor arrives, putting himself between the three heroes and the spikes and losing his right arm doing it, All For One jeering at his stubbornness all the while. Inside his head, a younger Enji tells him his strength has never been lower, and that each attempt he made only dragged into daylight a frailty that was there from the start. That younger self orders him to remember where this began: his father dying in front of him, cut down beside the child whose rescue he attempted. He is told to remember the envy and inferiority he felt looking at genuine supermen, and to remember choosing a hero name that means hard work, an admission of how ordinary he is, all of it holding an ugly heart together. Endeavor grabs him by the throat and hears the rest anyway: he will never be All Might, he will never be Deku, he has been fighting his own weakness this entire time, so he should forget rebirth and keep cursing the real enemy, because that hatred is the only thing that has kept him breathing. Endeavor forms a fist of fire out of the stump of his right arm and drives it into All For One, declaring that he will see this through for as long as he is alive.

Tsukuyomi debuts a new Ultimate Move, and the mask does not survive it. All For One recognises that holding a duplicate of his signature Quirk rather than the original is why the vestiges can resist him, leaving him weaker and more exposed. He fights back by absorbing several vestiges and firing a barrage of Rivet Stabs, which double as a way to recover the broken mask fragments.

Endeavor rejoins the fight to shield the three heroes, and it costs him his right arm. His origin is revealed: what set him on the hero path was watching a villain kill his father during an attempted rescue of a young girl. He argues with his younger self over what his true enemy has always been, his own weakness, then forms a fiery fist from the amputated arm and punches All For One, vowing to end this.

Kohei Horikoshi numbers this My Hero Academia installment 356 under the title Regarding the Enemy. It runs fifteen pages, collects in Volume 36, and appeared in issue 29 of 2022 on June 20. Earphone Jack, Tsukuyomi, Hawks and All For One appear on the cover.

The chapter falls within the Final War arc and was adapted as Episode 148. Horikoshi's author comment reports that the high frequency cutter he ordered for the previous chapter had just arrived, and asks what he should cut.
