Chapter 361

Somewhere far down in the interior where "Tomura Shigaraki" thinks, Tenko hears Lemillion's claim that he never had friends and reacts. "Tomura" screams that Tomo likes him and so does Mikkun, that Mon is forever asking to go for walks with him, that of course he has friends. The outburst leaves both of them thrown, and Lemillion actually apologises before another wave of fingers slams into him.

Lemillion turns the reaction over in his mind, then registers something more immediate: the main body is far tougher than the fingers, and their attacks are barely marking it. "Tomura", for his part, feels his mind coming apart. The body should be finished and the assimilation complete, yet something inside has not dissolved. The name it answers to is neither Tomura nor All For One. It is Tenko Shimura.

Deciding this cannot be allowed to run any longer, "Tomura" rounds on Dynamight once more, informing Lemillion that he will not trade blows with somebody whose only goal is killing the clock. Lemillion recalls laying the plan out for Suneater and Nejire Chan shortly before they moved: pull Dynamight out, then keep "Tomura" occupied at close range with Permeation. Aware he cannot stall indefinitely without any real offence behind him, he had turned to Suneater and promised to hold the line for as long as it took him to get that ready.

Best Jeanist puts himself in front of Dynamight while "Tomura" observes that they are barely staying conscious and have only managed to build their own tomb. Nejire Chan cuts in with more Pike attacks and is nearly swallowed by the fingers for it. She thinks back to her early time at U.A., when everyone read her powerful Quirk as condescension whenever she tried to get close, and she pulled away from them. Then Tamaki made an awkward attempt at friendship by asking which hero she was a fan of, which opened the door to knowing him and Mirio, and to becoming stronger for it. She fires her Wave Motions directly into Suneater, who takes them in and readies Manifest at its full ceiling, a Vast Hybrid that releases every animal and every plant he has ever eaten into one ultimate fusion, his friends' encouragement carrying him through it.

Lemillion's comment stirs the remnant of Tenko Shimura still lodged inside "Tomura". Turning back toward Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight to end him, "Tomura" leaves Lemillion and Nejire Chan scrambling to hold his attention.

Nejire's past is revealed: her powerful Quirk made classmates at U.A. believe she looked down on them, leaving her cold and distant, a state that only broke once Tamaki reached out and Mirio followed, drawing her back out. Tamaki then pushes Manifest to its ceiling, fusing every animal based and plant based food ever absorbed into his system and folding Nejire's energy into the result.

Kohei Horikoshi numbers this My Hero Academia installment 361 and calls it Abnormal Happenings. At eleven pages it is the shortest chapter in Volume 36, and it ran in issue 35 of 2022 on August 1. "Tomura Shigaraki", Nao Shimura and Lemillion appear on the cover.

The chapter falls within the Final War arc and was adapted as Episode 149. Horikoshi's author comment complains about his body signalling illness through stomatitis and asks it to stop.
