Chapter 43 (Vigilantes)

The mixer rolls on and Rin drifts closer to Koichi Haimawari, flirting openly, which drives Kazuha, actually Kazuho Haneyama under a disguise, to close the distance herself. Kaori, who is Midnight in her own disguise, cheerfully stokes the rivalry. The Mad Hatters cannot work out why Koichi of all people is drawing the attention, and Koichi finds the whole thing awkward.

Hina comes back from the bathroom nearly unrecognizable, her makeup redone and her outfit switched to something far cuter, and plants herself between Rin and Koichi with obvious interest in him. Jealousy pushes Kazuho to ask Midnight when the suspects get arrested, and the answer is that nothing they have done yet is a crime. A fresh round of drinks arrives from a waiter nobody remembers summoning, and the group simply accepts it. Hina takes the opportunity to slip a few drops of something into the glass she means for Koichi, payback for stealing Rin's attention.

Naomasa Tsukauchi, over at the Hotta Brothers Shop, briefs Eraser Head on a second form of Trigger tied to the instant villains turning up at these mixers. The new strain works by ingestion alone, so the Police Force believes it is being stirred into drinks and the customers are being dosed without knowing.

Koichi turns down the doctored beer because he is underage, and one of the Mad Hatters drinks it instead. Hina tries cola and ginger ale next, but Kazuha claims Koichi cannot handle carbonation, and his companions polish those off too. Increasingly desperate, she doses more glasses, only for the waiter to whisk them away with an apology about another table. Quirks around the bar begin misfiring. Koichi works to contain the mess, which only raises Rin's opinion of him, and Hina finally tries to force a drink down his throat.

With the room in a panic, Midnight steps in and puts everyone to sleep with Somnambulist, sparing only Kazuho, Rin, and Hina, which ends the rampage. Hina confesses that watching Rin around boys is unbearable to her, and Midnight, sympathetic but unmoved, takes her in. Naomasa congratulates her the next morning and Eraser Head agrees with the verdict. Back at his penthouse, Koichi recounts the whole evening to Kazuho: the loose Quirks, Midnight's arrival, the spiked glasses, and how every woman there turned out to be a strange and frankly scary character. Asked nervously whether even one of them was decent, he says no, all terrifying.

A second variety of Trigger is identified, one that requires only ingestion, which explains the instant villains appearing at the mixers and points the Police Force at the drinks being served. Hina is revealed as the one dosing glasses, motivated by jealousy over Rin rather than by any villainous scheme.

Midnight ends the outbreak with Somnambulist and arrests Hina, earning praise from Naomasa and Eraser Head. Koichi, oblivious throughout, avoids every drugged drink through a combination of being underage and Kazuho's interference.

The forty-third chapter of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes comes from Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court rather than Horikoshi. It runs 19 pages, published December 8, 2018 and collected in volume 6 within the Team Ups arc, with episode 18 of the Vigilantes anime adapting it.

The cover shows Kaori and Kazuha, the disguised identities the chapter runs on. Trivia records that the chapter first carried a slightly different Japanese title, later amended for the volume release. Kuin Hachisuka appears only in a fantasy sequence.
