Chapter 46.1: Endeavor's Mission

Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto are midway through a work-study under Endeavor when he drives them out to a facility for an evaluation. The men in black waiting there identify themselves as World Heroes Association staff, present to judge whether the three belong on an overseas assignment. Endeavor sets the terms: land a single hit inside three minutes or stay home.

The associates watch from a monitoring room as the test opens. Reading the gulf in power, Deku decides the maze-like arena favors an ambush. Bakugo drops in from overhead and gets blasted aside, startled by the reflexes. Shoto comes straight on with an ice wall that burns away instantly, which he had expected, since it buys Deku a window; Endeavor blocks the punch from behind regardless. Two minutes left, and the observers, unsurprised by the number one Pro Hero's showing, wonder what the students do with the rest. All three rush him together and he answers with Hellflame in every direction.

At the one-minute mark the associates see three interns nearly finished and tell Endeavor they never expected a match for him and would like the three given a chance. He refuses to hear it, telling them the boys deserve no such condescension as they climb back up, and spells out the motto U.A. imported from the west: Plus Ultra. Bakugo blasts around to Endeavor's back and forces an evasion, Shoto throws fire ahead of him and earns a compliment, and Deku drives through the smoke to scrape a hit home. Bakugo insists another thirty seconds would have finished it, Shoto files away his firepower as the thing to fix, and Deku mutters his progress into his notebook.

Endeavor passes them. The associates promise custom stealth suits, and the three immediately start designing: Shoto sketches upgraded arm covers, Deku wants a cape like All Might's while worrying he has not earned one, and Bakugo yells that nobody wears a cape on a stealth job, though Shoto notices his elaborate gauntlet drawings. As the associates ask Endeavor whether the group will get along, Deku wonders what the mission abroad holds and which heroes and villains are waiting.

Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto pass Endeavor's three-minute test and qualify for the World Heroes Association's overseas mission.

Endeavor defends his interns to the WHA associates and invokes U.A.'s Plus Ultra motto.

Custom stealth suits are commissioned for the three, setting up the film's costumes.

An extra chapter and tie-in prequel to My Hero Academia: World Heroes' Mission, written and drawn by Yoco Akiyama. It ran 17 pages on August 2, 2021 in issue 35 of 2021 of Weekly Shonen Jump, published alongside Chapter 321, and was later collected in Volume 7 of My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions. Deku, Bakugo, Shoto, and Endeavor share the cover.

Akiyama's author comment points readers to the third My Hero film opening on August 6 and to the special manga handed out at screenings.
