A striking mix of masculine and feminine traits defines Benten, a contrast his squadmate Chushin finds so odd that he jokes it feels strange whenever Benten speaks, since the deep voice clashes with the soft face. Pink lipstick, brown eyes, and shoulder-length black hair streaked with red frame that look, with a chiming bell ornament fixed behind his head.

For clothing he pairs a teal and pale-violet jacket left open at the collar with brown trousers and shinobi sandals.

Like the rest of his crew, Benten chases power by way of fortune, convinced the Tsuchigumo secret will make him both wealthy and formidable. The squad stormed Mount Katsuragi hunting the clan's forbidden scroll, only to learn that Hotaru carried it. Their pursuit repeatedly collided with Utakata, a wanted Kirigakure rogue who freed the girl and later cornered the group with his Six-Tails power. When Naruto Uzumaki went looking for their ally Shiranami, the team ambushed him and drained his chakra, but his Nine-Tails power tore through their binds. They eventually seized the Tsuchigumo village by hypnotising its people, then fell in battle against Team Yamato, with a single punch from Sakura Haruno knocking Benten out cold.
