Appearance

Nangō ties his lengthy, spiky brown hair back into a ponytail while his bangs drape across his brow. Set into his face are small black eyes. He leaves his vest open, its upper half purple and its lower portion a pale green, and winds white bandages around both forearms. Beige trousers, matching bandages wrapped along his lower legs, and black shinobi sandals complete the look.

Personality

Sparing with his words, Nangō projects the image of a hulking, slow-witted enforcer. That impression proves misleading. On the rare occasions he does speak, his brief remarks reveal a sharp eye for detail and a genuinely observant mind.

Abilities

Earth Release forms the core of Nangō's arsenal, and he can dissolve his own body into mud to slip clear of otherwise lethal blows. As a Magaki member, his true strength lies in cooperative ninjutsu. Together with Benten and Chushin, he channels his chakra into Akaboshi to make that ally's attacks far more punishing. The unit combines for supporting feats such as a group transformation, barrier-shattering, and shadow-rope restraints, along with offensive methods that bind foes on both small and large scales, an explosive pyramid that kills those trapped within, and a lethal Lightning Release strike. Their ultimate move, the Impermanence of Worldly Things, spawns a shard that splinters into many and impales the target, a technique Yamato regarded as formidable.

Alongside Akaboshi, Chushin, and Benten, Nangō set out for Mount Katsuragi hunting the Tsuchigumo forbidden jutsu. The team broke the barrier surrounding the peak, overcame Tonbee, and learned that Hotaru carried the technique they sought. Acting on new orders from a mysterious backer, the four ambushed Hotaru in the Tsuchigumo Village, where Nangō used his mud body to pin her and lifted a scroll, only for it to prove a rigged trap that exploded and let her flee. During the pursuit, Utakata intervened, claiming his own stake in Hotaru, and their leader later revealed Utakata to be a Kirigakure missing-nin worth fifty million ryo.

When Naruto Uzumaki approached the Magaki leader Shiranami believing him a friend, Nangō and his fellow Magaki trapped Naruto inside the Infinite Embrace. Enraged at the deception, Naruto drew on the Nine-Tails chakra and tore free, wrecking the house around them. The group escalated to Multiple Infinite Embraces to crush him and drain that chakra, yet Naruto broke loose again before collapsing. Utakata reappeared with Acid Permeation, intimidating them with his Six-Tails chakra, and Akaboshi ordered a retreat. That night the Magaki turned mind control on the villagers to fight Konoha, but the arrival of Team Yamato swung the fight, and Nangō's shard technique failed before a kick from Sai knocked him out.
