Izumo Kamizuki

Izumo has dark eyes and brown hair combed flat so that it hides his right eye. His standard look is the full Konoha uniform buttoned up to the chin, in the style Yamato wears, over a flak jacket, with his forehead protector tied as a bandanna. By the time of The Last, two years past the war, he has updated to the newer flak jacket and high-topped sandals and adds an armband bearing the Uzumaki clan emblem on his left arm.

Izumo is rarely apart from Kotetsu, his closest friend, and plays the grounded, level-headed one of the pair. He once stormed into the standby station lounge to haul his partner back to duty, and elsewhere chided Kotetsu for grumbling about running the Hokage's errands, reminding him that protecting the village and its people is the finest work a shinobi can be given. He is also fastidious to the point of germophobia, fussing over cleanliness, though the quirk never seems to get in the way of his job.

Izumo is quick-thinking and deeply analytical, spending his downtime gathering and organising information because he holds that battles are decided by intelligence rather than raw strength; his clear judgement outstrips that of most chūnin, and he often manages enemy intelligence single-handedly, including against the Akatsuki within the Twenty Platoons. He wields Water Release, and his Starch Syrup Capturing Field coats the ground in a thick fluid that traps anyone who touches it, setting up Kotetsu to strike with his Conch Shell Mace. The two also fight with oversized bladed weapons, flanking a target and using hilt-mounted chains to bind them. He and Kotetsu first appeared disguised at the Chūnin Exams, trying to scare off applicants until Team 7 saw through their genjutsu, and Izumo later served as an invigilator and watched the preliminaries. Once Tsunade became Hokage, the pair took on double duty as her aides and gate sentries, and they were the ones who found Sakura the morning after Sasuke defected. During the Akatsuki Suppression Mission they joined Asuma Sarutobi and Shikamaru Nara, ambushing and stabbing Hidan, only for the immortal to shrug it off; forced to watch Asuma fall, they took on Kakuzu, were captured, and had to be saved by Raidō Namiashi and Aoba Yamashiro, then mourned Asuma at his funeral. In the war Izumo and Kotetsu struck Kakuzu again after the Gold and Silver Brothers were beaten, chaining him down, and Izumo objected when Shikaku assigned them to face their late teacher's reincarnation. He later mobilised with the First Division and the Allied Shinobi Forces. Two years afterward, in The Last, he escorted Kakashi to a Kage Summit amid a meteor crisis, carried Hiashi Hyūga to the infirmary after Sasuke destroyed an incoming meteorite, and watched Toneri split the Moon before the danger was finally lifted.
