Oboro is a genjutsu-loving genin from Amegakure who challenges Team 7 during the Chūnin Exams. Fond of the word lucky and of easy wins, he leans on illusions and underground earth techniques to wear opponents down before he strikes.
Oboro has dark eyes and spiky brown hair, and like his teammates he wears a yellow jumpsuit seamed down the center, plus a set of sandals. A forehead protector wraps his entire head, a rebreather sits over his mouth, and a cloth sash with cut-out eyeholes hides the rest of his face. In the anime he also turns up in a light purple kimono shirt with long sleeves and matching pants.
Spiteful and short on patience, Oboro relishes the chance to pay Sasuke back for an earlier defeat. He has a habit of blurting the word lucky whenever things break his way, and like his squad he savors a fight won cheaply. He is not one for details, an oversight that gives him away when he disguises himself as Naruto.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
Oboro is a rounded shinobi who leans hardest on illusions and clone work, using the Sly Mind Affect Technique to scramble an enemy's sense of direction and tire them out before closing in; he is also a capable knife fighter even with a wounded arm. His earth techniques let him tunnel and surface without disturbing the ground, and in the anime he wields Water Release and its clones as well. At the Chūnin Exams he enters the Forest of Death, isolates Naruto, and impersonates him to approach Sasuke and Sakura, but the disguise falls apart under Sasuke's eye, and Oboro is injured and forced to retreat.
He and his teammates later snare Team Kakashi in layered genjutsu, only to discover they have been fighting shadow clones, and the real ninja rout them and take their scroll. In an anime arc set in the Land of Tea, Oboro's squad serves under Aoi Rokushō to fix a shrine race for the Wagarashi family, sinking Idate's ship with oil and water clones during a sea battle. The fight turns when Naruto's Rasengan training spins up a whirlpool that drags the Ame genin into a trench, leaving them immobilised, though their masks are thought to have kept them alive.
