Shiho

A white laboratory coat worn over a red dress sets Shiho apart among Konoha's staff. Her hair is a pale blonde, gathered into a loose tail with a few strands left to stray, and her eyes stay hidden behind glasses tinted with a swirl pattern.

Rather than fasten her forehead protector across her head, she loops it around her waist like a sash and wears it turned backwards.

Bright and upbeat by nature, Shiho carries an obvious soft spot for Shikamaru. When he promises to come back to the cryptology office with any fresh developments, she turns down her superior Mitoku's offer to let her leave early, choosing instead to tidy her appearance in a mirror so she can greet him again on his return.

She reddens easily in his presence, as when he agrees to let her walk with him to Tsunade's office. A cover note once joked that, next to how nervous and excited he makes her, decoding messages hardly troubles her at all.

Despite her youth, Shiho is a composed and skilled decoder within the village's Cryptanalysis Team. She lends her expertise to both Shikamaru and Naruto Uzumaki during code work, and cracks the cipher Jiraiya used based only on the clues available. She also offers sound insight when Shikamaru and Sakura puzzle over what the decoded message truly means, and her Chūnin rank implies further capability beyond cryptography.

Shiho is first shown struggling to break Jiraiya's coded note about Pain, explaining that no solution is possible without a key likely held by someone close to him. Once the code is solved, she travels with Shikamaru to Tsunade and helps interpret the result. She is standing beside Shikamaru and his father when Pain levels Konoha, surviving the blast; the anime reveals that Shikamaru broke his leg shielding her. In the anime she later helps sort salvaged photographs to return them to villagers, blushing as she describes tulips as flowers of eternal love while glancing at Shikamaru. She also appears briefly among the villagers in Naruto's memory during the events of Blood Prison.
