Guren's fall drives a grief-stricken Yukimaru to summon the Three-Tails, and with his usual attacks useless against the amphibious beast, Naruto invents a fiery collaboration technique alongside the toad brothers.
Kabuto reveals that he did away with Rinji for daring to report to Orochimaru as his equal, then raises the dead man's body with the Dead Soul Technique and sets it on Guren. Guarding Yukimaru behind her Crystal Release, Guren finds her crystals nullified by Rinji's ultrasonic control over bats. She disables his arms, crystallizes them both, and the two plunge off the cliff into the sea. Convinced Guren has perished, Yukimaru's grief boils over and summons the Three-Tailed turtle, whose surge of power cracks the sealing barrier and sends the beast on a rampage.
Nurari, having absorbed the corpses of his two comrades, moves on the Orochimaru Search Team. Kakashi orders Yamato to pin him for a Lightning Cutter strike, but the Three-Tails erupts from the water and wipes Nurari out first. Pleased that his scheme has ignited Yukimaru's rage regardless, Kabuto withdraws, leaving Naruto to face the beast. Barred from the boy by the barrier, Naruto takes on the turtle alone. With his Rasengan ineffective and Rasenshuriken off-limits, he summons Gamakichi and Gamatatsu, only for Gamakichi to point out that water attacks are wasted on an amphibious foe. Recalling Yamato's lessons on nature transformation, Naruto reasons toward combining wind and fire.

Naruto vs Luffy with the twist nobody asked for: Luffy tickled Hinata on date night, and she kind of liked it. We break down the whole fight and commit to a winner....

Naruto built the transformation jutsu himself, and the Hidden Leaf has been quietly not talking about it ever since. The story behind our 90s R&B record about the Naruko question everybody dodges....
Part of the Three-Tails' Appearance arc, the episode builds to a three-way cooperation ninjutsu. Gamatatsu fetches toad oil, Naruto fuses his wind chakra with it for the Wind Release: Toad Oil Bullet, and Gamakichi adds his own Flame Bullet to form the Wind Release: Toad Oil Flame Bullet. The blazing torrent boils away the turtle's counterattack and drives it back for the moment, after which the toads vanish and the barrier around Yukimaru dissolves.
In "Shattered Promise," Yukimaru summons the Three-Tailed turtle in a fit of grief after believing Guren has died, and Naruto must invent a new fire based technique to fight the amphibious beast.
Guren disables Rinji's arms with her Crystal Release, crystallizes them both, and the two plunge off a cliff into the sea, leading Yukimaru to believe she has perished.
Naruto combines his wind chakra with toad oil fetched by Gamatatsu to create the Wind Release: Toad Oil Bullet, then adds Gamakichi's Flame Bullet to form the Wind Release: Toad Oil Flame Bullet.
Naruto's Rasengan proves ineffective against the amphibious Three-Tails, and the Rasenshuriken is off limits, forcing him to summon Gamakichi and Gamatatsu and devise a new combination attack instead.
"Shattered Promise" is part of the Three-Tails' Appearance arc in Naruto: Shippuden, episode 111.
