The Entrusted Mission: Protect the One-Tails!

With Sasuke flung into another dimension, Boruto lunges at Urashiki, only for Gaara to pull him aside and bind him in sand for his own safety. Gaara warns the boy that their foe is an Otsutsuki and far beyond his reach. Urashiki presses his advantage against the worn-down Kazekage, but Shinki and Shukaku intervene. Shinki hurls his Iron Sand and Shukaku wields Wind Release to corner the enemy, yet Urashiki slips every attempt. Gaara buys time by locking him away with the Desert Layered Imperial Funeral Seal, and Urashiki, unbothered, promises simply to wait things out. Kankuro, Yodo and Araya then arrive, having heard that Shukaku is the target.

Gaara assigns Kankuro, Shinki and Boruto to carry Shukaku all the way to Naruto in Konohagakure for safekeeping. The beast balks at being stuffed into a tea kettle but eventually climbs in of his own accord. Shinki objects to the plan, doubting Boruto's maturity and resenting that Suna's own tailed beast should be handed off, but he yields once it is clear only Boruto knows the route through Konoha. Gaara adds that his son has something to learn from the boy. Yodo and Araya escort the wounded Kazekage home while the trio sets out, Shukaku clinging to Boruto's back at the start.

Reaching an abandoned wind-power station, the group hopes for a communications line but instead uncovers a map of paths into Konohagakure. Shinki reprimands Boruto for being fooled into letting Shukaku slip off, the beast having faked a need to relieve himself just to lounge around, and he takes over guardianship by sheathing Shukaku inside his Iron Sand armour. As they press on, enemy puppets sense the party. Kankuro orders Shinki and Boruto ahead and stays behind to counter the mechanisms with his own puppets.
