The Genin Documentary

A week after the Byakuya Gang affair, Naruto praises the genin who helped resolve it during an interview, which grates on Iwabee, who had been told to stand down. Word of the coming Chūnin Exams only deepens his worry about being left back as a genin. Shikamaru and Naruto talk over recent events and the thin pool of exam applicants. Udon visits the office, lifts Team 5's suspension, and assigns them a job: appearing in a documentary meant to reverse the drop in Academy sign-ups. Iwabee, Metal, and Denki all vow not to fall behind.

Filming goes poorly, since none of them look natural on camera. The director quietly asks Udon whether another squad might work better, but Udon explains the Hokage chose this team himself. Confessing he once dreamed of being a shinobi, the director pushes for flashy ninjutsu, so Iwabee heaves up the ground, Metal strikes it, and shuriken fly toward Denki, who substitutes clear. The footage looks striking, yet Udon notices the display is frightening bystanders and pulls Team 5 from the shoot.

Frustrated, Iwabee moves to throw down his forehead protector before Metal stops him. Udon defuses the moment by admitting his own repeated failures to graduate and his botched early missions, which gives Iwabee something to chew on. That night, the crew, unwilling to abandon the project, sets off explosive tags they had rigged on a condemned building for the shot. When the structure begins caving in on them, Metal shields them from debris, Denki reads the situation, Iwabee blocks a falling crane, and Udon halts the collapse with his snot-based jutsu. Iwabee loses his forehead protector in the chaos, and the crew asks the team to headline the documentary after all.

Reporting back, the team hears Naruto share his own rough days at the Academy, and Iwabee is moved to tears learning the Hokage remembers him. His teammates return the lost forehead protector they recovered, and Team 7 later watches the finished documentary.

The episode belongs to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and centers on the newer generation's Team 5 rather than Boruto's own squad. It uses the documentary premise to spotlight Udon's growth from a struggling student into a mentor figure.
