The Unfinished Page

In the wake of the wrecked mission, Yamato confronts Naruto with an uncomfortable admission: it was the boy's own rampage that left Sakura hurt. The image of a battered Jiraiya, once pressing him on whether any trace of the attack stuck in his mind, comes rushing back. Only then does Naruto understand that his fury tore apart Tenchi Bridge along with the terrain around it. Yamato drives the lesson home, warning him against leaning on a strength that was never truly his to begin with.

Yamato insists the Nine-Tailed Fox's chakra is borrowed rather than earned, and that Naruto must stop relying on it to rescue Sasuke or shield his teammates, trusting instead in the skills that are genuinely his. Elsewhere, Sai, Orochimaru, and Kabuto halt their river dash so Kabuto can tend to his tools, and he mentions needing a replacement male corpse, ideally somewhere between fifteen and seventeen, to redo their earlier trap. Sai discovers his picture book is missing, dropped back when Kabuto first jumped him.

Back with the recovery group, Sakura pages through Sai's book and reads it aloud to the others. Its story follows two young boys who cut down enemies and claim their armour and weapons, until a central spread turns them against each other. One side of that spread sits blank; the other shows a dark-haired child with no face. Naruto recognises the figure as Sai himself, and Sakura reasons that the empty half must stand for a brother Sai lost.

The fugitive trio at last reaches Orochimaru's hideout, where Sai spots a waiting figure and immediately knows him as Sasuke Uchiha. Eyes already burning with the Sharingan, Sasuke greets Orochimaru by noting how long he has kept him waiting. The episode is drawn from manga chapters 299 and 300 and belongs to the Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission arc of Naruto Shippuden.
