Kira Kira no Mi

Taking its name from kirakira, the Japanese sound-word for a sparkling gleam, this Paramecia power lets Jozu turn any chosen part of himself into diamond. Since scarcely any material on earth matches diamond for hardness, the shift boosts his durability enormously. The plainest demonstration arrived when Dracule Mihawk, celebrated as the finest swordsman alive and dreaded for a strike said to have no equal, cut at Jozu and could not pierce him.

Whatever section Jozu wills becomes crystalline, yet a hardened area locks rigidly in place, so sheathing his entire body would leave him immobilized and defenseless. This is no Logia: he can neither conjure nor direct diamond apart from his own skin, and the intangibility Logia users enjoy is absent. Past those points, the ordinary Devil Fruit frailties still constrain him.

During battle the diamond aids both attack and guard. His already savage blows land harder thanks to the dense mineral mass driving them, and by planting himself in a projectile's path he lets his crystalline surface absorb the hit. Coating the diamond in Armament Haki heightens its worth even more, particularly against Logia foes. Revealingly, he usually keeps some portion of himself soft in a fight instead of hardening completely.

Serving as the Whitebeard Pirates' third division commander, Jozu is the sole owner. In his trademark Brilliant Punk he barrels toward a target and rams it with a diamond-sheathed forearm, flinging the victim back, a move first shown against Crocodile at Marineford. Footage set twenty-six years prior depicts him at sixteen already using the diamond change during Whitebeard's battle with the Roger Pirates. A set of non-canon game-only moves, among them Cabochon Knuckle, Octagon Hammer, and Dispersion Impact, broadens his arsenal with assorted gemstone-cut themes.
