Sitting within the Paramecia class, this power lets whoever eats it turn stretches of their own body into instruments and perform tunes that inflict harm, with the flavor of the damage decided by the melody chosen. Scratchmen Apoo is the character who consumed it. The name springs from oto, meaning sound, the opening character in the Japanese word for music. Localized editions market it as the Tone-Tone Fruit.

The holder morphs parts of himself into instruments, so that a set of teeth might become keys and a limb a horn, and by sounding the right notes he emits music that injures targets according to whatever tune he picks. The spread of effects runs wide, from bodily blows such as punches and slashes fierce enough to sever limbs, all the way to elemental hits like detonations. Since each attack rides on a sound wave, it races out quickly and blankets a large area, which makes it terribly hard to notice or evade; even Kizaru, whose own fruit grants light-speed motion, was caught unprepared. Everyone standing inside both his line of sight and earshot falls under the music's effect, and he can hand-pick whom to hit merely by fixing his gaze on them. Those same traits carve out the limits: several attacks connect only when the target can genuinely hear the sound, so plugging one's ears or fleeing past his audio range shrugs them off, and he cannot land a hit on anything hidden from his eyes. The moves call for real musical range across the wind, percussion, and string families, with some firing off in an instant while others demand a drawn-out performance, and Logia bodies simply knit back together after a strike. His Tatakau Music lineup features Shan, a cymbal tone that slices like a blade, Don, a drumbeat that erupts from within a target, and Bon, plucked strings that deliver a bruising, punch-like jolt.

Apoo is the fruit's lone wielder, and he prefers indirect combat, striking up his music while a rival's attention drifts elsewhere so he can hurt them before they can respond. He keeps the inner workings of his power under wraps and bristles whenever a foe cracks the mechanics, as Drake managed to do. Oda has mapped out Apoo's complete anatomy of instruments, seventeen in all, ranging from horns woven into his hair and a drum across his torso to a turntable built into a leg. The musical theme also turns up elsewhere, both in Brook's fighting style and in the Uta Uta no Mi, a fruit that lies outside canon, yet each arrives at it through its own separate route.
